Chandigarh, September 11, 2026: The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today held the fourth Samaadhaan Shivir for the residents of Manimajra at the Community Centre near Shivalik Garden, Manimajra. The initiative reaffirmed the Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to citizen-centric, transparent and responsive governance.

Among those present on the occasion were Shri Saurabh Joshi, Mayor, Chandigarh; Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, Chief Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh; Shri Vivek Pratap Singh, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Punjab; Shri Mandip Singh Brar, Home Secretary; Shri Diprava Lakra, Finance Secretary; Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, Director General of Police, Chandigarh; Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, Senior Superintendent of Police; senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration; and representatives of various departments.

Total 83 grievances were received from the residents of Manimajra. During the Shivir, residents of Manimajra presented their grievances and concerns, one by one, before the Administrator. The issues raised related to civic amenities, sanitation, drinking water supply, electricity, roads, street lighting, housing, public health services, education, solid waste management, parking and other infrastructure-related matters.

Teams from various departments recorded the grievances and forwarded them to the authorities concerned for necessary action and time-bound redressal. Departmental officers also provided on-the-spot updates, clarified queries and explained the steps being taken to resolve the issues. Several matters were addressed at the venue, while those requiring further action were taken up for expeditious resolution.

Addressing the gathering, the Administrator informed that a total of 234 grievances had been received during the previous Samaadhaan Shivirs, of which only around 19 remained pending. He also shared the department-wise status of the pending grievances and directed the departments concerned to ensure their prompt resolution.

The Administrator emphasised accountability, inter-departmental coordination and regular monitoring to ensure effective outcomes. He said that the Administration and the public must work together to resolve issues efficiently and expeditiously.

He assured the residents that most of their infrastructure-related grievances would be addressed and the necessary development works would be initiated at the earliest. He reiterated the Administration’s commitment to taking governance to the doorstep of citizens and strengthening direct engagement with local communities.

The Administrator also urged citizens to approach him with their grievances during the weekly Janata Darbars held at the U.T. Secretariat. He informed that Samaadhaan Shivirs would continue to be organised at different locations across the city, enabling residents to interact directly with the Administration and seek resolution of their concerns.

Referring to matters involving policy decisions, the Administrator clarified that certain issues required the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and therefore needed additional time. He appealed to the residents to remain patient while such matters were pursued with the authorities concerned.

The Administrator also highlighted Chandigarh’s achievements in the fields of education and sports. He referred to the improved performance of government schools and the initiatives being undertaken to provide counselling and financial assistance to needy students. He also highlighted the cash awards and scholarships being provided to sportspersons under the Chandigarh Sports Policy.

Shri Kataria assured that the Administration would further intensify its efforts to build upon these achievements and secure even better results in the future.
