Chandigarh, September 10, 2026: Internationally acclaimed cyclist and social activist Shri Somen Debnath reached Chandigarh as part of his year-long nationwide bicycle campaign, “Reunion Bharat—One Tree, One Life, Indian Youth and Sports.” During his journey, he will cover all 28 States and five Union Territories of the country.

The campaign aims to promote national unity, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment and sports, while reflecting the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

Shri Debnath has achieved the remarkable feat of cycling across 191 countries spanning all seven continents over a period of 19 years. His extraordinary journey is a testament to human endurance, discipline and determination. Through his travels, he has raised awareness about important social issues and showcased India’s rich heritage, cultural diversity and spirit on the global stage.

During his visit to Chandigarh, Shri Debnath met Shri Saurabh Joshi, Mayor; Shri Diprava Lakra, Finance Secretary; Shri Saurabh Kumar, Director Environment; Shri Amit Kumar, Municipal Commissioner; Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner; and among other senior officers and dignitaries.

In his message to the residents of the City Beautiful, Shri Debnath urged everyone to protect the environment, plant more trees, adopt sustainable practices and live life to the fullest while remaining mindful of their responsibility towards nature and future generations.
