Chandigarh, 6 September: The Library of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a series of student-centric activities aimed at promoting reading habits, encouraging engagement with library resources, and developing effective information-search and retrieval skills. The programme comprised a two-day Book Exhibition and a Book Hunt Competition.
The Book Exhibition featured a diverse collection of publications spanning literature, science, social sciences, management, competitive examinations, self-development, and general-interest reading. Students, faculty members, and staff explored a wide range of books beyond the prescribed curriculum, reflecting the exhibition’s role in broadening their reading horizons.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Ms. Neena Sharma, Officiating Principal, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to cultivate regular reading habits and make meaningful use of the library’s resources. The exhibition received an enthusiastic response from the college community and contributed to strengthening the culture of reading on campus.

The Book Hunt Competition, organised by IGNITE- The Library Club, was conducted in the college library. A preparatory demonstration familiarised participants with the Library OPAC and the process of locating books on the shelves. Nine teams participated in the competition and undertook a series of book-search tasks based on themes including India’s Independence, the Freedom Movement, national leaders, patriotism, and the Constitution. The activity provided students with hands-on experience in information retrieval while fostering teamwork, quick thinking, and resourcefulness. Muskan Devi and Ananya Gosain of Team A secured the first position. Sukhpreet Kaur and Aarzoo Sharma of Team E won the second position, while Sehajpreet Kaur and Pooja of Team B secured the third position. Together, the activities created an engaging and experiential learning environment, strengthened students’ engagement with books and library services, and advanced the Library’s efforts to foster reading, discovery, collaboration, and independent information-seeking skills.
