Mayor Saurabh Joshi kick-starts ₹83.86-lakh revamp of 29 back service lanes in sector-16
Long-pending demand of residents moves from promise to execution; project to be completed in six months
Chandigarh, September 5:- In a major step towards improving neighbourhood infrastructure, Chandigarh Mayor and area Councillor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today kick-started the reconstruction of 29 back service lanes in Sector 16-A, B, C and D, fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents.
The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will execute the project at a cost of ₹83.86 lakh, with the work scheduled to be completed within six months.
The work was formally commenced by Mayor Saurabh Joshi in the presence of residents, including Sh. Ramesh Singla, Dr. Ajay Garg, Smt. Manjeet Oberoi, Smt. Shelly Garg, Dr. Barinder Paul Singh and other prominent residents of the area.
Welcoming the commencement of the work, residents expressed satisfaction that their long-standing demand had finally reached the execution stage and thanked the Mayor for pursuing the matter and ensuring its implementation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Saurabh Joshi said, “Development is not about announcements; it is about delivering results that people can see and experience in their everyday lives. The reconstruction of these 29 back service lanes was a long-standing demand of Sector-16 residents, and I am pleased that the work has commenced today with the participation of the residents themselves.”
He further said that every lane and every neighbourhood matters and assured residents that their genuine civic concerns would continue to be addressed on priority.
The Mayor directed the concerned engineering officials to maintain high-quality workmanship, ensure timely completion within six months and minimise inconvenience to residents during execution. He emphasised that development works must be completed with accountability, quality and a citizen-centric approach.

MCC inspects paid parking sites, directs immediate measures for safer & better facilities
Parking signage, road markings, lighting, cleanliness and Divyang spaces reviewed at Industrial Area Phase-I and Sector 26 truck parking
Chandigarh, September 5:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today conducted a detailed inspection of the paid parking site adjoining Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase-I, and Idle Truck Parking, Sector 26, to assess the availability, safety and overall upkeep of parking facilities for citizens.
The inspection was conducted by Dr. Inderjeet, Joint Commissioner, along with the Executive Engineer, Road Division No. 2, SDE (Parking), Superintendent Grade-I and concerned JEs of the Parking Wing.
During the inspection, directions were issued to the concerned wings to ensure proper installation and maintenance of parking signage, thermoplastic road markings, barricading, cleanliness and overall upkeep of the parking areas. Particular emphasis was laid on maintaining dedicated Divyang parking spaces and ensuring their easy accessibility, while unnecessary obstructions were ordered to be removed.
The concerned JEs of the Horticulture and Electricity Wings were also directed to undertake necessary tree pruning and ensure proper functioning and maintenance of lighting arrangements at the sites.
All concerned officers and officials were directed to ensure time-bound compliance with the directions and undertake regular monitoring of the parking facilities.
The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reiterated its commitment to providing clean, safe, organised and citizen-friendly parking facilities, while ensuring that civic infrastructure is maintained to the highest possible standards.
