Chandigarh, 28 August: The Department of Home Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised an innovation and entrepreneurship community outreach programme- “Home Science: From Skills to Start-ups, Creativity to Careers” at DAV Model School, Sector 15, Chandigarh. More than 60 students of Classes X-XII participated in the programme.

The initiative aimed to familiarise young learners with the entrepreneurial and career potential of Home Science and encourage them to transform their skills and creativity into innovative ideas and viable career opportunities. Through interactive discussions and case studies, the students were encouraged to identify everyday challenges and explore creative, market-oriented solutions. The programme highlighted the contemporary scope of Home Science as a multidisciplinary and career-oriented field encompassing food and nutrition, human development, textiles and clothing, resource management, interior services, entrepreneurship and community development. The outreach also sought to dispel conventional perceptions of Home Science as being limited to domestic skills. Students were introduced to how the discipline integrates science, creativity, technology, management, design, and entrepreneurship, opening avenues for diverse careers and start-ups.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative and emphasised that the Home Science discipline offers far-reaching opportunities by combining practical skills with creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. She added that the programme underscored the importance of moving from learning a skill to creating value from that skill, inspiring students to view their abilities as potential foundations for innovation, enterprise and meaningful careers.
