Environment Standing Committee of Administrator's Advisory Council reviews plantation and restoration works at reclaimed Dadumajra Dumpsite
Chandigarh, August 6:- The Environment Standing Committee of the Administrator's Advisory Council today visited the reclaimed Dadumajra Dumping Ground to review the progress of plantation, environmental restoration and maintenance works being undertaken by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

were received by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Sh. Saurabh Kumar, IFS, and other concerned officials of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and the Forest Department.
During the field visit, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, gave a detailed presentation on the transformation of the reclaimed dumpsite and apprised the Committee about the ongoing plantation drive, survival rate of saplings, maintenance schedule, irrigation system, monitoring mechanism and other measures being adopted to ensure the healthy growth of the plants. He informed the Committee that regular inspections and scientific maintenance practices are being carried out to achieve a high survival rate and further strengthen the green cover at the reclaimed site.
Sh. Saurabh Kumar, IFS, briefed the Committee on the selection of indigenous tree species, ecological restoration strategy and the long-term afforestation plan for the reclaimed landfill. He highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring and scientific management to develop the area into a sustainable urban green space that supports biodiversity and improves the local environment.
The Committee members inspected various plantation sites, reviewed the overall status of the saplings and assessed the maintenance arrangements at the reclaimed dumpsite. They appreciated the efforts of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and the Forest Department in transforming the erstwhile dumping ground into a green landscape and emphasized the need for sustained maintenance to ensure the long-term success of the plantation initiative.
The Commissioner assured the Committee that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh would continue regular maintenance, watering, gap-filling plantation, and monitoring of the saplings to ensure their healthy growth and further strengthen the city's environmental conservation initiatives.

MC Commissioner reviews progress of CBG project at Dadumajra; Directs expedited action on alternate site
Chandigarh, August 6:- The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, chaired a high-level review meeting last evening to assess the progress of the proposed Segregated Organic Municipal Solid Waste (SOMSW)-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant at Dadumajra. Senior officials of MCC and representatives of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) participated in the meeting.
The meeting focused on technical challenges, including findings from the soil investigation, which necessitated exploring an alternate location within the Dadumajra dumping ground. The Commissioner directed IOCL to complete the required soil studies at the alternate site and submit its report at the earliest to facilitate further action.
The status of Viability Gap Funding and coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs were also reviewed. IOCL was asked to submit a detailed proposal for a retail outlet within the project area. The Commissioner emphasized timely implementation of the project, highlighting its importance for sustainable solid waste management, clean energy generation and environmental conservation in Chandigarh.
