Chandigarh, 6 August: Reinforcing its commitment to creating socially responsible and aware citizens, NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and in collaboration with Chandigarh Police, organised a special session on Road Safety and Traffic Awareness as part of its ongoing Induction Week 2026.

The session aimed to familiarise newly admitted students with essential road safety practices, responsible driving behaviour, and traffic regulations. The initiative instilled sense of civic responsibility among young learners while highlighting the importance of disciplined road conduct in preventing accidents and ensuring safer public spaces. DSP Dr. Parvesh Sharma and a team of experts from Chandigarh Police interacted with the students on key aspects of traffic awareness, including adherence to traffic rules, safe pedestrian practices, the significance of wearing helmets and seat belts, prevention of distracted driving, and the legal implications of traffic violations. The resource persons also familiarised the students with licensing procedures and e-challan system. Real-life case studies of road accidents caused by negligence, over speeding, distracted driving and non-compliance of traffic rules were also shared to drive home the idea of road safety. The session encouraged students to become proactive ambassadors of road safety within their families and communities.

Officiating Principal Ms Neena Sharma asserted that such awareness initiatives play a vital role in nurturing informed, responsible and safety-conscious citizens. She added that through meaningful collaborations with civic authorities, MCM continues to provide holistic learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and prepare students to contribute positively to society.
