Chandigarh, 30.07.2026:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today laid the foundation stone of a New Boys Hostel at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, in the presence of Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Engineering; Ms. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Technical Education; Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, Punjab Engineering College; Sh. C. B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, U.T. Chandigarh and other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and Punjab Engineering College.
Keeping in view the increasing demand for student accommodation and the need to strengthen the residential infrastructure at Punjab Engineering College, the Chandigarh Administration has approved the construction of a new Boys Hostel within the PEC campus. The project will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹17 crore and aims to provide modern, safe and comfortable residential facilities for students.
The proposed hostel building will comprise a Ground Floor plus six upper floors (G+6) with a total built-up area of 78,400 square feet. It will have 103 triple-sharing rooms with accommodation for 309 students. The hostel will also include two guest rooms and one warden’s room to facilitate hostel administration and accommodate visitors.
With the completion of the two new hostel projects at PEC, the overall hostel accommodation capacity of the institute will increase by 728 students, from the existing 2,178 students to 2,906 students. The newly announced Boys Hostel project is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
The new hostel will significantly enhance the residential infrastructure of Punjab Engineering College and provide students with improved living facilities, thereby creating a more conducive environment for academic excellence. The project marks another important milestone in the Chandigarh Administration’s continued efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and improve student amenities in the city.
