Chandigarh, February 11, 2026:The ongoing Solar Awareness and Facilitation Camps under the flagship Government of India initiative PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana have witnessed an overwhelming response across the Union Territory of Chandigarh, with over 1000 visitors attending the camps during the past two days. The remarkable public participation reflects the growing awareness and popularity of rooftop solar adoption among city residents.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) under the Department of Science, Technology & Renewable Energy (DST&RE), Chandigarh Administration. The camps have significantly enhanced consumer awareness and confidence regarding rooftop solar installations. The presence of empanelled vendors and participating banks at the venues has ensured seamless on-site registration, technical guidance, and spot loan facilitation, thereby simplifying the process for prospective beneficiaries.

A meeting with the Chandigarh Traders Association, Sector-17, was also organised during the outreach programme. Members of the association actively participated and shared their suggestions. The interaction, conducted with the support of the Traders Association, helped strengthen awareness within the trading community and fostered coordination for wider outreach and effective implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, particularly in residential premises of its members.

The enthusiastic public response indicates that residents are increasingly keen to adopt rooftop solar systems and benefit from reduced electricity bills, further reinforcing Chandigarh’s commitment to clean energy, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

Encouraged by the strong response, CREST has decided to expand its outreach efforts by adding three additional camp locations. The newly scheduled camps will be organised at:
1. CHB Flats, Sector 61 – from 15th February 2026
2. Bank Square, Sector 17 – from 12th February 2026
3. Near Tourist Information Centres, Sector 17 Plaza – from 12th February 2026

These additional camps aim to further widen the scheme’s reach and provide more residents with hands-on assistance, technical clarity, and financial facilitation regarding rooftop solar installation under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

With proactive administrative support, strong coordination with banks and empanelled vendors, and active citizen participation, Chandigarh is making steady progress towards achieving its clean energy targets.

CREST urges all residents of UT Chandigarh to take full advantage of this opportunity by visiting the Solar Awareness Camps to gain comprehensive information about the scheme, avail on-site technical guidance from empanelled vendors, and benefit from spot loan facilitation by participating banks under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
