MAHENDERGARH, 17.12.25-Prof. (Dr.) Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh release the book published by Luminus International Publisher, Huntington (Canada) entitled “Beyond Borders: The Journey of Cross-Region Brides in Rural Haryana”. The book is authored by Dr. Ashish Kumar, Former Assistant Professor, UILS, Chandigarh University and alumnus of the Department of Sociology, Central University of Haryana (CUH), and co-authored by Dr. Reema Gill, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, CUH. While congratulating the authors, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar remarked that the book is timely and socially significant, offering critical insights into changing marriage patterns, gender relations, and processes of cultural integration in rural Haryana.
While presenting the first copy of the book to the Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, the authors observed that the book examines the growing phenomenon of cross-region marriages shaped by skewed sex ratios, patriarchy, and structural inequalities. Based on rich ethnographic fieldwork, the book documents the lived experiences of women from states such as West Bengal, Bihar, and Assam, highlighting themes of cultural adaptation, identity, kinship, and resilience.
On this occasion, Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Haryana, discussed the current scenario of the sex ratio in Haryana and its sociological implications. Prof. Payal Chandel, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, appreciated the book’s strong empirical foundation and noted its relevance for academics, students, and policymakers. Prof. (Dr.) Nand Kishore, along with faculty members and administrative staff, was also present on the occasion. The launch concluded with best wishes to the authors and a brief interaction.
