Chandigarh, 19 November: With the objective of providing students with hands-on exposure to commercial mushroom production and familiarising them with the entrepreneurial possibilities in the sector, the Department of Botany at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised an educational field visit to Banipal Mushroom Cultivation Farm, Karkaur Village, Derabassi, Zirakpur.
Mr. Davinder Singh Banipal, owner of the farm, guided the students through the various stages of mushroom cultivation, including compost preparation, spawn development, casing, pinning, and harvesting. He also shed light on the financial aspects, income potential, and challenges associated with establishing mushroom cultivation as a startup enterprise. The immersive experience allowed students to gain practical insights into the innovative practices, operational techniques, and entrepreneurial scope of a well-established mushroom cultivation unit.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of such experiential learning opportunities in promoting innovation, skill development, and self-reliance among students.
