Chandigarh,18.11.25 — The T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh today inaugurated the National Library Week and Children’s Day Celebrations, organized in collaboration with the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi. The week-long celebrations aim to promote reading habits, creativity, and literary engagement among children.
The inaugural event, “Dress Up and Speak as a Story Character”, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 35 students of various private schools across the tricity. Children dressed up as their favourite story characters and delivered lively presentations, showcasing imagination, confidence, and a deep love for storytelling.
The event was organised by Dr. Neeza Singh, Librarian, with support from Mrs. Neelam Bansal, Library Incharge, who ensured the smooth coordination of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neeza Singh said, “National Library Week is a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to the joy of reading through creative and interactive activities. Our aim is to make the library a vibrant space where every child feels inspired to explore stories, ideas, and knowledge.”
She further added that activities like these help build confidence, expression, and imagination among young learners.
Sh. Subhash Bhaskar, Secretary, Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi, graced the occasion as the distinguished guest.
The competition was judged by Dr. Alka Kansra and Sh. Subhasis Neogi, who praised the young participants for their expressive performances and creativity.
As part of the week-long celebration, the Library will also host a range of engaging activities including a Hasya Kavi Sammelan, Declamation Contest, and a Cyclothon for both private and government school children.
