District Road Safety Committee Meeting Held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, October 28, 2025: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, to review the ongoing road safety and infrastructure works in the city.

The meeting was attended by SSP (Traffic & Security), officials from Engineering Department, Health Department and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Engineering Department to use bitumen material for constructing cycle tracks instead of concrete, as it provides better performance and comfort for cyclists. He also expressed concern over the slow progress of the cycle track work from Hallomajra Light Point to Behlana Light Point and instructed officials to complete it as soon as possible.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed that all road signage, including speed limit and traffic advisory boards, should follow the latest guidelines issued by the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) to maintain uniformity and national standards.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the recent safety measures implemented in the city, such as installing ‘rumble strips’ to control vehicle speed and enhance safety, marking zebra crossings and stop lines at key junctions to improve lane discipline and pedestrian safety, and setting up Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC) signals at important intersections like Sectors 52/53-42/43 and 41/42-54/55 for better traffic management.

He emphasised the need to complete all ongoing projects on time to improve road safety, ensure smoother traffic flow, and make commuting safer for all residents of Chandigarh.

Meeting on Rationalisation of Polling Stations and Appointment of Booth Level Agents Held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner

Chandigarh, October 28, 2025: A meeting with representatives of all political parties was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, UT Chandigarh, to review the rationalisation of polling stations and the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in the Union Territory.

During the meeting, it was informed that polling stations across Chandigarh have been reorganised to bring the average number of electors per polling station below 1,200, in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India. As part of this rationalisation exercise, 10 new polling stations have been created to provide greater convenience to voters.

Further, one polling station in Sector 54 (Polling Station No. 33) has been deleted following the demolition of Adarsh Colony, while another polling station in Sector 52 (Polling Station No. 588) has been removed due to a low number of electors and its distance from the residential area. Additionally, the area of Manimajra has been re-designated as Sector 13 (Manimajra) for electoral purposes.

After the completion of this process, a total of 622 polling stations have been finalised for the upcoming elections in Chandigarh.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for timely appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) by all recognised political parties. He urged party representatives to share the list of BLAs with the Election Department at the earliest to ensure transparency, coordination, and smooth communication at the booth level.
