Nerchowk Medical College to start Robotic Surgery this year: CM
Sanctions Rs.28 crore for MRI, Rs.12 crore for cath lab
SHIMLA, 14.10.25-Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today presided over the IRIS-2025 programme at Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Nerchowk, in district Mandi. He announced to start robotic surgery at the college later this year and sanctioned Rs. 28 crore for the installation of an MRI machine, to be set up within two months. Robotic surgery has already commenced at Chamiyana and RPGMC Tanda, where 45 surgeries have successfully been performed using robotic technology.
He said that Himachali doctors were highly talented and outdated technology often hampers their ability to treat patients efficiently and the state government was replacing all the old machinery with the modern ones.
The Chief Minister said that the government has approved Rs.12 crore for a cath lab at Nerchowk, out of which rupees nine crore has already been released. He said that soon all medical colleges in the state would have smart diagnostic laboratories modeled on AIIMS, New Delhi, where 100 tests can be conducted from a single blood sample. He said that the state government has sanctioned Rs.75 crore for this purpose.
He said that to overcome the shortage of technicians in the health sector the number of seats in medical colleges has been increased and 38 new posts have been sanctioned in the department of emergency medicine.
Shri Sukhu said that the previous BJP government had squandered the state’s treasury. He said that if they had used the funds judiciously, the health services in the state would have been far better today.
The Chief Minister said that from the very first day of assuming office, the State Government had introduced policy reforms and comprehensive measures were undertaken to enhance the quality of education. There has been almost 60 per cent improvement in the education sector as a result the State jumped from 21st to the 5th position in education rankings at National level. However, the positive impact of our reforms was now visible and for this all teachers deserve appreciation.
He said the previous BJP government had opened schools merely for political gain without providing the necessary facilities due to which the present state government was forced to close many of them.
The Chief Minister said that the government was committed to strengthening the education sector. In this direction the government was establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools in every assembly constituency. English-medium education has begun from Class I and 100 government schools were being started based on CBSE curriculum.
He also recalled his political journey from when he was 26 years till date. He advised the students not to be discouraged by failures, as success comes through hard work and persistence.
The Chief Minister announced a grant of rupees five lakh for students to organise cultural activities.
The Chief Minister was accorded a warm welcome en-route Sundernagar to Nerchowk, Congress workers and local residents extended a warm welcome at several locations along the route.

Nerchowk Medical college gets facelift with projects dedicated worth Rs. 8.37 cr
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of five projects of Rs. 8.37 crore in Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College & Hospital, Nerchowk in Mandi district during his one day tour.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Students Hostel to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5.98 crore.
He also inaugurated Rs. 80 lakh State Midwifery Training Institute and Skill Lab, Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre completed with an outlay of rupees six lakh, Comprehensive Lactation Management Centre completed with an outlay of Rs.76 lakh and Rs. 23 lakh Endoscopy Unit in the Medical College.
