CHANDIGARH, 08.10.25-Today on 08.10.2025, the event was graced by the Hon’ble Punjab Governor cum UT Administrator, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, who flagged off the new 50 Quick Response Team (QRT) motorcycles under the theme “Sadak Sahayogi–Surakshit Marg, Surakshit Jeevan” at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, UT, Chandigarh. Shri H. Rajesh Parsad,IAS, Chief Secretary, Shri Mandeep Singh Brar,IAS, Home Secretary, Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Pushpender Kumar, IPS, IGP, UT Chandigarh, Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, SSP, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, SSP (Security & Traffic), Ms. Geetanjali Khandewal, IPS, SP/Cyber Cell, Sh. Jasbir Singh, SP/Crime, Ms. K.M. Priyanka, IPS, SP/City and other senior officers of Chandigarh Police were present on this occasion.

In a major initiative to enhance road safety and emergency response systems, Honda India Foundation (HIF) provided 50 Quick Response Team (QRT) and model CB350 motorcycles to Chandigarh Police. Mr. Rajiv Taneja, Operating Officer, Honda India Foundation (FIH), and Mr. Karan Gilhotra of M/s Platinum Honda marked their presence, adding significance to the occasion. The other senior officials from HIF were also present to acknowledge the commendable efforts of Chandigarh Police in ensuring public safety.

His Exellency highlighted that this CSR partnership between Honda India Foundation and Chandigarh Police represents an exemplary model of public–private collaboration aimed at strengthening emergency response and saving lives.

During his address, His Excellency emphasized Chandigarh Police’s commitment to efficiency, transparency, and accountability under the new criminal justice framework. He stated that it is mandatory to complete the investigation of Rape & POCSO Act cases within 60 days from the date of registration of the crime. Chandigarh Police remains fully committed to ensuring that all Rape and POCSO Act cases are completed within this 60-day period.

The Chandigarh Police has consistently ranked among the top States and UTs in compliance with this mandate.
His Excellency also lauded Chandigarh Police for achieving 1st position in the country for speedy passport verifications during the year 2023–24, reflecting its dedication to citizen service delivery.
He further highlighted that under the new legislative framework, the department has achieved remarkable results—securing convictions in 165 out of 181 decided cases, marking an impressive 91.2% conviction rate. Most significantly, burgarlary, theft, snatching, vehicle theft, molestation etc and special local laws were disposed of within an average of 97 days from the date of FIR registration, a stark improvement compared to the average of 3 years recorded in previous years.

Highlighting Chandigarh Police’s operational excellence, the Hon’ble Governor also stated that the city achieved the fastest emergency response time in India, averaging 5.6 minutes in 2025, surpassing its previous record of 6.31 minutes, while the national average stands at 18.61 minutes.

Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, DGP, Chandigarh, said, “these specially equipped QRT motorcycles will empower Chandigarh Police to respond swiftly to road accidents, emergencies, and traffic management operations. Each vehicle is fitted with advanced tools such as sirens, flashers, public announcement systems, storage boxes, flashlights, and helmets, ensuring readiness for any rapid response situation.” This achievement is attributed to enhanced PCR strength, upgraded fleets, and GPS-enabled monitoring systems ensuring real-time dispatch and improved public safety.
The Honda India Foundation, the CSR arm of Honda group companies, continues to work extensively in the areas of road safety, education, environment, and healthcare. This initiative aligns with Honda’s global vision of achieving a “Collision-Free Society by 2050.” Under this pan-India mission, Honda aims to deploy 250 QRT vehicles across key States including Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with Chandigarh emerging as a model city for effective implementation.

Re-inforcing the shared vision of “Together for a Safer, Stronger Chandigarh,” the event concluded with a collective message that road safety is not only a government responsibility but a shared societal mission. The newly inducted QRT motorcycles will serve as a symbol of public service, swift action, and citizen safety, reflecting the commitment of Chandigarh Police and the UT Administration toward building safer roads and saving lives.

On the occasion, a Road Safety Booklet was also released by Chandigarh Police on the occasion, highlighting key traffic rules, emergency response measures, and citizen awareness initiatives aimed at promoting safer road practices in the city.
