Chandigarh, 16 August: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell and the Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, organised a series of activities to mark the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and a strong sense of social responsibility.
On 13th August, the UBA Cell organised a movie screening on Constitution Day at Government School, Sector 41-D, Badheri, followed by a Quiz competition with Class 9 students. Winners were felicitated with stationery items to encourage learning. On 15th August, UBA Cell members actively participated in the Gram Sabha held at Sector 41, Badheri. The programme featured a flag hoisting ceremony, the councillor’s address on local concerns, and cultural performances by children. In line with its commitment to environmental stewardship, the Cell also conducted a plantation drive at the village to spread awareness about sustainability and community well-being.
The VADA Club, under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, also observed Independence Week with impactful initiatives. These included an awareness programme on drug abuse, a yoga session in collaboration with the SAARTHI team, a powerful nukkad natak titled “Yudh Nashe ke Virudh” at Government Model High School, Sector 49-D, a plantation drive, and a pledge ceremony reinforcing the resolve for a drug-free future.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma applauded the efforts of both UBA and VADA teams, stating that through such initiatives, students not only honour the spirit of Independence but also extend its meaning by addressing issues of social, constitutional, and environmental significance. She added that these activities stand as a testament to MCM’s unwavering commitment towards nurturing responsible, aware, and empowered citizens.
