Chandigarh, August 11:– As part of the 10-day citywide cleanliness campaign initiated by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, a special cleanliness drive was conducted today on the eighth day at City Garden in Sector 9 and Shivalik Garden in Manimajra. Social organizations including Don Bosco Navjeevan Society and Onkar Charitable Foundation actively participated and extended full support to the initiative.
Speaking at the event, at Sector 9 Councillor Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu emphasized that the ongoing cleanliness campaign, is a significant initiative by the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh aimed at making the city cleaner and healthier. “Through this campaign, citizens are being educated about the importance of cleanliness and encouraged to maintain hygienic surroundings,” he said. He also expressed gratitude towards the children of Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, who are actively cleaning parks and green belts while also raising awareness among the public.
Smt. Darshna Devi, Councillor at Shivalik Garden, Manimajra, added that the objective of the campaign is to promote cleanliness and instill a sense of responsibility among people towards maintaining hygiene in their environment. “Cleanliness not only prevents the spread of diseases but also plays a crucial role in protecting the environment,” she noted.
While speaking about the campaign, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, MCC highlighted that such cleanliness drives offer people the chance to lead healthier lives. “By ensuring clean surroundings, the Corporation provide access to fresh air and clean water, which is vital for a healthy lifestyle. These efforts increase public awareness and inspire collective action towards a cleaner environment,” he said.
