Mahendragarh, 7 August 2025-Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh commemorated the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Swaminathan—revered as the Father of the Green Revolution—by celebrating Krishak Kritagyata Diwas with great fervor and gratitude.
The event began with a brief introduction by Prof. Rupesh Deshmukh, highlighting the significance of observing this day annually to honour farmers and their invaluable contribution to the nation. The program commenced with the university Kulgeet, followed by welcome remarks from Prof. Sunita Srivastava, President of the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), CUH.
In his address, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar emphasized the critical role of scientists working in close collaboration with farmers to understand their challenges and develop practical solutions, ultimately aimed at doubling farmers’ incomes. He also acknowledged the legacy of Dr. Swaminathan in transforming Indian agriculture and ensuring food security.
The Chief Guest, Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, could not attend the event in person but sent a heartfelt message congratulating the university for organizing such a meaningful celebration. In his message, he reiterated the government's commitment to farmer welfare and appreciated CUH's efforts in strengthening the connect between academia and the agricultural community.
As a mark of deep respect and recognition, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor felicitated Sarpanchs and progressive farmers from Haryana by ceremonially offering a ‘Pagdi’ (traditional turban). He personally interacted with each farmer, discussing their farming practices and progress, reflecting the university’s commitment to farmer-centric research and outreach. Among the participating Sarpanchs were, Ms. Anju Tanwar, Sarpanch of Khudana, Mr. Deshraj Singh, Sarpanch of Pali, Mr. Karmbir Sani, Sarpanch of Gadi, Mr. Ratan Singh, Sarpanch of Bass Khudana, Mr. Amit Ji, Sarpanch of Dholi, Mr. Bhagat Singh, Sarpanch of Basai.
Guest of Honor, Shri Shravan Kumar Garg, Chairman of the Haryana Gau Seva Aayog, shared his extensive experience with Gaushalas and spoke on the potential of a cow-based economy in promoting sustainable agriculture. He highlighted traditional practices and encouraged adopting eco-friendly, holistic farming models rooted in Indian heritage. Another Guest of Honor, Shri Mohit Verma, I.E.S., Joint Director, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, elaborated on various government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers—especially in promoting organic farming and water conservation. He encouraged the youth and researchers to contribute actively to India's agri-ecosystem.
Dr. Ashish Mathur, Dean, School of Life Long Learning, spoke on the role of educational institutions in improving agricultural practices and introduced the distinguished speakers to the audience. Dr. Pawan Maurya, Dean Academics, also introduced speakers and underscored the importance of academic outreach in rural transformation. Adding a personal touch to the tribute, Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean Research, CUH, shared her fond memories and professional interactions with Dr. Swaminathan, underlining his visionary approach and deep empathy for farmers.
Prof. Sunita Srivastava further briefed about the university’s ongoing yearly pledge—‘Sankalp’—to spread awareness and sensitize communities about sustainable and organic farming practices. The event concluded with the felicitation of local farmers by all dignitaries, a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Namrata Dhaka, and the National Anthem, leaving behind a strong message of gratitude, sustainability, and collaboration. Dr. Sunil Agrawal contributed to the success of the program as the anchor, ensuring smooth coordination and engagement throughout the event. Students and PhD scholars worked hard to make event successful.
