CHANDIGARH,08.05,25-Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Thalassaemic Charitable Trust, a pioneer Trust for supporting Thalassaemics of northern India organised a Mega Blood Donation Camp on 8th May 2025 in PGI Chandigarh on the occasion of World Thalassaemia Day. It was the 313th Blood Donation Camp of the Trust.

This camp was sponsored by M/s Unipro Techno Infrastructure Private Limited Chandigarh and State Bank of India, MI Branch, PGIMER, Chandigarh. This Blood Donation Camp was also significant as the availability of blood decreases in summer months due to fewer blood donations.

Department of Transfusion Medicine and Thalassaemic Charitable Trust, PGIMER observes World Thalassaemia Day every year to spread awareness about thalassaemia. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust made elaborate arrangements for the blood donors and setup a desk dedicated to thalassaemia awareness. Prof(Dr) Sanjay Jain, Director (Current duty) and Dean Research, PGIMER Chandigarh inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp by cutting a cake with patients of Thalassaemia. He was accompanied by Prof(Dr) Ratti Ram Sharma - Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine. Prof(Dr) Sadhna Lal, Head, Department of Gastroenterology, Advanced Paediatric Centre PGIMER Chandigarh also blessed the blood donors. Prof(Dr) Sanjay Jain took keen interest in the working of TCT and lauded the efforts of TCT for organising this mega Blood Donation Camp and running two Day Care Centres for thalassemics in PGIMER and GMCH Chandigarh.

In this Blood Donation Camp Hon’ble 313 voluntary blood donors registered for blood donation, in which 263 Hon’ble blood donors donated blood. Blood Donors were honored with Certificate, Badges, Gift and healthy refreshment. The credit of success of this camp goes to the entire team of Department of Transfusion Medicine and staff of TCT PGI Chandigarh under the guidance of Prof(Dr) RR Sharma, HOD, Deptt. of Transfusion Medicine and Sh. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary-TCT.

Smt. Vibha Mittal, Executive Chairman; Sh. A.P. Singh, Sr. Vice-President; S Sh. Balraj Gill, Vice President and Executive Committee Members Smt. Roopam Korpal, S/Shri Kush Verma, Dr Viney Sood, and Amit Sood spported the day with Sh Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary.
