Heavy Rain Causes Estimated Loss of 65 Crore Rupees in Bilaspur — DC
Bilaspur, August 6, 2025-Continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days has disrupted normal life in Bilaspur district, and further rainfall is expected in the coming days. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar informed that as of 2 PM on Wednesday, the district had recorded an estimated loss of approximately 65 crore rupees.
Of this, the Public Works Department has suffered losses worth 45 crore 73 lakh rupees, the Jal Shakti Department 15 crore 50 lakh rupees, the Electricity Board 3 lakh 90 thousand rupees, schools under the Education Department 7 lakh 80 thousand rupees, and buildings under the Health Department 13 lakh rupees. Municipal councils and nagar panchayats have also reported losses of about 95 lakh 50 thousand rupees.
So far, 87 cases of damage to kutcha houses, cowsheds, kitchens, toilets, and other structures have been reported, with an estimated value of 43 lakh 56 thousand rupees. Heavy rains have also resulted in the death of six animals. In the current monsoon season, eight human fatalities have been reported — including three in road accidents, two due to snake bites, one from lightning, one woman swept away in a stream, and one person killed by a falling tree.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that all major connecting roads in Bilaspur district are open, while instructions have been issued to the Public Works Department to reopen blocked rural roads at the earliest. Efforts are also underway to restore drinking water schemes disrupted in certain areas.
He appealed to residents of the district to stay away from rivers and streams and to venture out during rainfall only when absolutely necessary.
