Chandigarh,11-March 2024: Tricity based senior musician Prof. Harvinder Singh, who was chosen by Government of India for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution in the field of Hindustani Classical Music last month, has been honoured by President of India Droupadi Murmu in a special program organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal, Sangeet Natak Academy Chairman Dr. Sandhya Purecha and Union Cultural Secretary Govind Mohan were especially present on this occasion.


Speaking at the felicitation ceremony of the highest awards given for performing arts, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the role of performing arts in the cultural heritage of India. Murmu said that since ancient times, art forms have been given the high status in Indian culture. She said that artists are challenging stereotypes and prejudices through their art. They are awakening the society through their art. Our arts are the best example of India's liberal power, that is why they are part of India's foreign policy.


On being honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2022, Prof. Harvinder Singh expressed his gratitude to the Government of India, Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi and Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi for this honour He said that he has been engaged in the practice and service of the ancient art of India, which is the classical music for the last five decades and it is undoubtedly a matter of great pride and joy for him for being recognized for the same by the government. He said that after this national honour, his responsibility has increased further to keep our cultural heritage alive by propagating it among masses.
