Chandigarh, 18 September 2026: The NSS Units of MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh, organised a series of awareness and community outreach activities on 18 September 2026 under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – “Nasha Mukt Yuva: For Viksit Bharat”, followed by the celebration of Poshan Maah, with a focus on health literacy, nutrition, reproductive health, mental well-being and holistic wellness.
The programme commenced with an awareness session conducted by Mr. Vinay Kumar, District Level Youth Officer, MY Bharat, Chandigarh, who sensitised the NSS volunteers about the harmful effects of substance abuse and highlighted the important role of youth in building a healthy, responsible and drug-free society. He emphasised the significance of informed choices, self-discipline and collective responsibility in strengthening the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat. The session concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony under the “Say No to Drugs Sankalp Abhiyan”, wherein the NSS volunteers pledged to stay away from substance abuse and spread awareness about its harmful effects in society.

Following the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan session, the programme also featured a collaboration with Project Manaswi – Mental Health and Emotional Well-being. NSS Student Leader Mugdha Wadhwa and Co-Leader Anandee Seal introduced the project and apprised the participants of its objectives and upcoming activities. Their engaging presentation highlighted the importance of mental and emotional well-being as an integral component of overall health. As part of the community outreach component of Poshan Maah, the NSS team visited the Ayush Health and Wellness Centre, Badheri, Sector 41-D, and the Anganwadi of Badheri village under the initiative “Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Jimmedari.” Healthy meals were distributed among women to promote awareness about balanced nutrition and foster a sense of community responsibility.

An awareness session on reproductive and postpartum health was also conducted by Dr. Naina, who highlighted the importance of proper nutrition, timely healthcare, awareness and self-care during the postpartum period. The outreach initiative provided NSS volunteers with meaningful exposure to grassroots-level health literacy while effectively connecting health awareness with community service. The programme provided NSS volunteers with valuable learning and service experience in the areas of substance-abuse prevention, nutrition, mental and emotional well-being, reproductive health and community outreach. It reinforced the importance of youth participation in promoting healthy lifestyles, social responsibility and community well-being.

Dr. Neena Sharma, Principal, MCM DAV College for Women, appreciated the dedicated efforts of the NSS volunteers and congratulated them on the successful conduct of the activities. She encouraged the volunteers to continue undertaking meaningful initiatives that promote health awareness, community well-being and social responsibility.
