Chandigarh, September 14, 2026: T.S. Central State Library, Chandigarh, celebrated Hindi Diwas at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Village Sarangpur, Chandigarh, with the objective of promoting the Hindi language, reading habits and the rich tradition of storytelling among children.

On the occasion, Dr Neeza Singh, Librarian, T.S. Central State Library, Chandigarh, interacted with the students and spoke about the importance of the Hindi language in connecting people, preserving India’s rich cultural heritage and expressing thoughts and emotions. She also highlighted the importance of developing reading habits among children and encouraged them to make books and libraries an integral part of their lives. She emphasized that libraries provide a gateway to knowledge, imagination and lifelong learning.

A special storytelling session was also organised by the Library through Kavad, a traditional Rajasthani storytelling method. The engaging session was conducted by Mr Subhasis Neogi from Puppet Theatre, who introduced the children to the unique art of storytelling through the beautifully crafted Kavad. The session generated great enthusiasm among the students and offered them an opportunity to experience India’s rich oral storytelling traditions in an innovative and interactive manner.

The celebration also provided a platform for students to showcase their talent and love for the Hindi language. Children enthusiastically recited poems and narrated stories in Hindi, making the programme lively and meaningful.

To encourage reading and appreciation of literature, prizes in the form of books were presented to the participating students. The initiative was warmly received by the students and teachers alike.
Mrs Veena Kumari, Principal of the school, appreciated the initiative of T.S. Central State Library and expressed her gratitude for organising such an enriching and engaging programme for the students.

The Hindi Diwas celebration reflected the commitment of T.S. Central State Library, Chandigarh, towards promoting languages, literature, reading culture and traditional forms of storytelling among young readers and taking library activities beyond its physical premises into the community and educational institutions.
