Chandigarh, Sept 14 - Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh today urged graduates to carry forward the scientific temperament of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, stating that his spirit of inquiry and innovation is more relevant than ever in the era of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Renewable Energy and Biotechnology. He called upon the young generation to participate directly in building a developed, self-reliant and inclusive India, describing it not merely as an opportunity but as a responsibility.

Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh was addressing the 6th Convocation of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, held at the University campus. Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Chairman, Executive Committee, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), attended as Guest of Honour and delivered the Convocation Address. Smt. Mitra Ghosh, First Lady of Haryana, was also present. Prof. Rajive Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, delivered the welcome address and presented the University’s progress report, highlighting its academic, research, innovation, infrastructure and student-development initiatives.

Earlier, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh inaugurated four major institutional projects —newly constructed multi-storeyed building Deendayal Upadhyay Knowledge Resource Centre, Centre of Excellence in Electric Vehicle Technology, Centre of Excellence for UAV and Anti-Drone Technology and Visual Design and Animation Studio — marking a significant expansion of the University’s academic, technological, creative and knowledge infrastructure. Thereafter, the Governor, along with other dignitaries, garlanded the bust of Sir J.C. Bose. This was followed by the traditional academic procession, lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana, National Song, Kulgeet, and the formal opening of the Convocation.

The Chancellor, as Governor of Haryana, announced a grant of Rs. 25-lakh from his discretionary fund for promote research and development (R&D) in the University, with a portion of these funds directed to support meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds.

Addressing the graduating students, Prof. Ghosh congratulated the degree recipients, medal winners, their parents and teachers. He highlighted the rich legacy of J.C. Bose University and its close association with the industrial development of Faridabad and the growth of technical education in Haryana. He emphasised that the University should continue to strengthen its role as a bridge between industry, research and society and emerge as a leading centre for industry-academia collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Ghosh also appreciated the University’s efforts in promoting vocational and skill-based education, noting that integrating academic knowledge with vocational skills can empower young people not merely to become job seekers, but job creators. He stressed the importance of ensuring inclusive access to quality higher education and urged the University to strengthen support mechanisms for needy students through alumni engagement, industry partnerships and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

In his Convocation Address, Prof. Nageshwar Rao appreciated the University’s academic and research initiatives and encouraged the graduating students to remain lifelong learners, embrace innovation and contribute meaningfully to society. He emphasised the importance of quality, research, technology and skill development in preparing young graduates for the rapidly changing global environment.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Kumar highlighted the University’s academic expansion, implementation of NEP 2020, research and innovation initiatives, development of advanced laboratories and Centres of Excellence, digital examination reforms, placement and incubation activities, international collaborations and student development programmes.

A total of 3,877 students were awarded degrees for various programmes successfully completed in 2024 and 2025, comprising 2,079 male and 1,798 female students. Among the degree recipients were 68 research scholars, including 46 women. Two students each for the years 2024 and 2025 were conferred the Governor-Chancellor Medal and the Chief Minister Medal. In addition, 19 students were conferred the Vice-Chancellor Medal in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. Among the recipients, Vidhi Raina and Harshika Vats, both from B.Tech. (Computer Engineering), received the Governor-Chancellor Medals, while Ram Sevak from B.Tech. (Robotics and Artificial Intelligence) and Aakriti Mittal from B.Tech. (Information Technology) received the Chief Minister Medals.

The Convocation concluded with the signing of the Scroll by the Chancellor, the closing declaration, felicitation of dignitaries, and the Vote of Thanks proposed by Prof. Ajay Ranga, Registrar of the University, followed by the return of the academic procession. The members of various University bodies, members of the Alumni Association, and officers of the District Administration were also present.
