MP Sh. Manish Tewari inaugurates open air gym at leisure Valley under MPLAD Fund

Chandigarh, July 25: To promote fitness and encourage a healthy lifestyle among citizens, an Open Air Gym developed under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund at an approximate cost of ₹2.43 lakh was inaugurated today at Leisure Valley, Sector 10, Chandigarh by Sh. Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament, UT, Chandigarh.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Sh. Mahesh Inder Sidhu, Councillor, Ward No. 2, MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, representatives of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), officials of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and other distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, Sh. Manish Tewari said that the installation of public fitness infrastructure is an important step towards promoting a healthier and more active society. He urged citizens of all age groups to make full use of the facility and adopt regular physical activity as part of their daily routine.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS appreciated the initiative and said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh remains committed to creating and maintaining quality public amenities that enhance the quality of life for residents. He emphasized that such facilities not only promote fitness but also encourage greater public participation in the use and upkeep of community spaces.

Councillor Sh. Mahesh Inder Sidhu welcomed the installation of the Open Air Gym and expressed confidence that it would greatly benefit residents, particularly senior citizens, youth and morning walkers visiting Leisure Valley.

Residents and RWA members appreciated the initiative and thanked the Hon'ble Member of Parliament and the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for providing a modern fitness facility in one of the city's prominent public parks.

MC Chief Engineer inspects Japanese Garden, directs improvement works

Chandigarh, July 25: MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora inspected the Japanese Garden, Sector 31 along with Superintending Engineer, Horticulture, Sh. Pritpal Singh and other Municipal Corporation officials to review the garden's maintenance and visitor facilities.

During the inspection, the Chief Engineer directed officials to undertake comprehensive improvement works, including repairs to the entrance, pathways, signboards and lighting, extensive grass cutting and weed removal, installation of standardised dustbins, display boards, track markers and park timings, and enhancement of sculptures, pagoda and hut lighting.

He also instructed officials to ensure functional CCTV surveillance, install a visitor feedback register, improve security by closing unauthorised entry points, and complete all maintenance works in a time-bound manner.

Sh. Sanjay Arora emphasised that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh remains committed to maintaining high-quality public parks and providing a safe, clean and pleasant environment for visitors.

MC Chandigarh intensifies enforcement drive, issues 98 challans against violators

Chandigarh, July 25:- The Enforcement Wing of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh continued its intensive drive against encroachments and illegal vending across the city to ensure smooth movement of pedestrians and maintain public order.

During the day, a special enforcement drive was carried out in the furniture market of Sector 34 and Sector 32 market, where corridors occupied by shopkeepers were cleared, restoring public spaces for visitors and shoppers.

In the evening, another drive was conducted in Manimajra and Sectors 47, 45, 19 and 22 against illegal vendors operating in violation of civic norms.

As part of the day's enforcement action, a total of 98 challans were issued to violators. The Municipal Corporation reiterated that such drives will continue regularly to keep markets free from encroachments, ensure public convenience and uphold civic discipline across the city.

SWM Audit Committee inspects Chandigarh's scientific waste management system at Dadumajra

Chandigarh, July 25:- The Site Inspection Committee constituted by the District Collector, U.T. Chandigarh conducted a comprehensive audit of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh's Solid Waste Management (SWM) facilities and expressed satisfaction over the city's scientific waste management system and compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.

As per the directions of Honble Supreme Court, The Committee led by Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, inspected Material Recovery Facilities, Dry and Wet Waste Processing Plants, Horticulture Waste Processing Plant, Bio-Methanation Plant, Construction & Demolition Waste Processing Plant, Sanitary Landfill Site and the Dadumajra Legacy Waste Site. It observed that all facilities are functioning efficiently with adequate infrastructure for scientific processing and disposal of municipal waste.

The Committee also noted effective implementation of the four-stream source segregation system, satisfactory waste collection and transportation through covered vehicles, and successful bio-remediation of the Dadumajra legacy waste site.

In its overall assessment, the Committee concluded that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has established a robust and compliant solid waste management system, with all major facilities operating satisfactorily in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
