Mayor reviews ICCC operations, flags gaps; Orders full integration & immediate system overhaul

Chandigarh, April 24:- Reinforcing the commitment towards smart governance and efficient public service delivery, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Mayor of Chandigarh, today conducted a comprehensive review of the functioning of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).

The Mayor was accompanied by Sh. Sanjay Arora, Chief Engineer, MC Chandigarh, along with other concerned officials. During the visit, he interacted with the ICCC staff and assessed real-time monitoring systems and service delivery mechanisms.

Reviewing the status of service integration, officials informed that key municipal services such as Solid Waste Management, Fire Services, Smart Water Metering, E-Grievance System, E-Governance Services, and Public Bike Sharing (PBS) have been integrated with the ICCC dashboard. However, the Mayor expressed concern over the apparent lack of on-ground functionality and absence of adequate MCC staff at the centre.

Taking serious note, Sh. Saurabh Joshi directed that all remaining Municipal Corporation services—including Sewerage & Public Health, Water Supply, Roads (B&R), Horticulture, Electrical Services, and Medical Officer of Health (MOH)-related services—be comprehensively integrated with the ICCC at the earliest to ensure seamless operations.

The Mayor also reviewed the CCTV surveillance network and was informed that 43 out of approximately 2000 cameras are currently non-functional. He issued strict directions for immediate repair or replacement to ensure uninterrupted city surveillance.

Focusing on smart infrastructure, he directed the Electrical Wing to make a detailed presentation on the Centralized Control & Monitoring System (CCMS), particularly covering street lighting operations, energy efficiency, and remote monitoring mechanisms.

During the inspection of the ICCC call centre, Sh. Saurabh Joshi interacted with the staff and reviewed complaint redressal processes. It was observed that complaints related to sewerage blockages have witnessed a significant rise over the past month.

In response, the Mayor directed the Public Health Department to identify critical sewer blockage points, undertake immediate desilting operations, and implement corrective measures. He further emphasized strengthening preventive maintenance systems and undertaking structural rehabilitation of sewer lines through advanced lining techniques to minimize recurrence.

Additionally, the Mayor directed officials to streamline manpower deployment at the ICCC on priority to ensure efficient functioning and accountability.

Reiterating the vision of a responsive and technologically empowered administration, Saurabh Joshi emphasized that the ICCC must function as a fully integrated, real-time command hub delivering prompt and reliable civic services to citizens.

MC Chandigarh reviews fire safety in Govt Hospitals; pushes for strict compliance & swift certification

Chandigarh, February 24:- In a significant step towards strengthening fire and life safety standards in key healthcare institutions, a high-level review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Dr. Inder Jeet, Joint Commissioner-cum-Chief Fire Officer, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The meeting focused on issues related to the issuance and renewal of Fire Safety Certificates for major government healthcare institutions, including Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Government Medical College & Hospital, and its South Campus at GMCH South Campus, along with their allied healthcare blocks.

Representatives from the concerned institutions, Station Fire Officers of respective jurisdictions, and officials from the Engineering Department participated in the meeting. A comprehensive review of the current status of fire and life safety compliance was undertaken, with a focus on identifying gaps and expediting necessary measures.

Considering the critical nature of these healthcare facilities and the heightened fire risk during the ongoing summer season, Inder Jeet emphasized strict adherence to fire safety norms and the need to maintain all fire protection systems in a state of operational readiness at all times.

Station Fire Officers were directed to extend all necessary technical support to the institutions and to process Fire Safety Certificates promptly for buildings that meet the prescribed safety standards. At the same time, representatives of the healthcare institutions were advised to work in close coordination with the Fire Wing and Engineering Department of MC Chandigarh to expedite pending compliance works.

Reiterating the priority of public safety, Inder Jeet stressed that robust fire and life safety mechanisms are essential to safeguard patients, attendants, and healthcare staff, and directed all stakeholders to ensure timely compliance and continuous monitoring.
