Education Secretary Inaugurates Child-Centric Lab and Mobile Science Lab at GMHS, Maloya Colony
Chandigarh, February 13, 2026:Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, today inaugurated a Child-Centric Science Lab and a Mobile Science Lab (Lab-on-a-Cart) at Government Model High School, Maloya Colony.
Mr. Nitish Singla, Director School Education, along with Ms. Bindu Arora, Deputy Director School Education-2, was also present on the occasion.
The Child-Centric Lab has been designed to provide interactive and age-appropriate learning setups, promoting integrated and experiential learning among students. The Mobile Science Lab, a movable “Lab-on-a-Cart,” is equipped with essential apparatus and materials required for teaching classes VI to X, including chemicals, voltmeter, microscope, test tubes, beakers, and other scientific equipment.
These initiatives aim to transform regular classrooms into dynamic learning spaces by enabling live demonstrations such as circuit testing, chemical reactions, and microscopic observations without the need for a fixed laboratory. The child-friendly design ensures safe handling of tools, encouraging curiosity and strengthening STEM skills among students.
Ms. Prerna Puri commended the initiative and stated that such child-centric laboratories and mobile science facilities represent innovative educational practices and should be implemented in other schools at the earliest.
Mr. Nitish Singla highlighted that the portability of the mobile lab and the integration of facilities like the Dome Theatre ensure equitable access to practical learning opportunities for all students, in line with the department’s vision of strengthening experiential education.
During the visit, the dignitaries also appreciated the school’s Dome Theatre for providing immersive and innovative educational experiences.
