Chandigarh, December 10, 2025: Former Municipal Councillor Shakti Prakash Devshali strongly condemned the INDI Alliance MPs for submitting a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to initiate an impeachment motion against Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, calling it an "openly anti-Sanatan and politically motivated attack on judicial independence, religious harmony, and the constitutional spirit of India."
Devshali, in strong and unequivocal terms, condemned the INDI Alliance MPs targeting Justice G.R. Swaminathan, stating, “This is nothing but an anti-Sanatan mindset that, under the guise of secularism, attempts to criminalize and delegitimize Sanatani traditions while misusing constitutional processes to intimidate the judiciary.” He emphasized that a judge permitting the lighting of a lamp in a peaceful and respectful manner is far from any kind of “misconduct” and falls well within the ambit of India's civilizational and constitutional commitment.
Devshali cautioned that impeachment of judges is an extraordinary constitutional safeguard meant for the rarest of rare cases involving proven misconduct or incapacity, not for settling ideological scores or appeasing vote banks. “Using impeachment as a weapon of political vendetta against a judge is a gross misuse of parliamentary privilege and a direct assault on the sanctity of the Constitution.”
Devshali appealed to the Speaker and all members of Parliament not to allow Parliament to be used as a platform for anti-Sanatan, ideological attacks on the judiciary. “Justice G.R. Swaminathan has committed no constitutional wrong by permitting the lighting of a lamp; rather, he has upheld the very spirit of India where a dargah and a Sanatani pillar can peacefully coexist on the same hill.” He appealed to all communities, religious leaders, and citizens to understand the "dangerous attempt to defame Sanatana practices" and to stand firmly in support of both judicial independence and India's civilizational culture of harmony.
