Chandigarh, December 4:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today organized an impactful ‘Swachhata Ki Karyashala’ at Ankur School, Panjab University, aimed at strengthening awareness on sustainable waste management among students and staff. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation and served as a vital platform to promote responsible waste practices at the grassroots level.
Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner, MC, Chandigarh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by resource persons and key officials of the IEC team of the Municipal Corporation.
Addressing the students and teachers, the Special Commissioner emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping a cleaner and greener future for the city.
He encouraged participants to adopt best practices of waste processing at the source, highlighting how small behavioral shifts at the household level can bring major environmental benefits. Stressing the importance of in–compound home composting, he explained simple, practical methods that families can follow to convert kitchen and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost.
He urged students to become ambassadors of cleanliness and inspire their families and communities to segregate waste at source, thereby contributing meaningfully to environmental conservation and Chandigarh’s cleanliness goals.
A live demonstration on home composting was also organized during the workshop, giving attendees hands-on exposure to the process. The interactive session helped the students understand the ease and effectiveness of composting and encouraged them to adopt the practice in their own homes.
The Municipal Corporation reiterated its commitment to consistent public outreach and awareness activities to strengthen community-led waste management and support Chandigarh’s journey towards becoming a zero–waste, environmentally responsible city.
