Chandigarh, 7 November: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a special singing of Vande Mataram to commemorate the 150 years of the iconic national song, as per the directions of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The soulful rendition by the students of the Department of Music marked the beginning of the year-long celebration of Vande Mataram. The staff and students joined in the singing with a deep sense of pride and patriotism, making it a moment of collective national reverence.
In another significant event, the college felicitated the winners of the 66th Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival. Demonstrating outstanding talent and versatility, the college emerged first among girls’ colleges and Second Runner-Up in the Chandigarh Zone. The college secured first positions in Poetry Recitation, Bagh Embroidery, Debate, Muhavredaar Vartalap, Essay Writing, Pranda Making, Poster Making, Geet, and Indian Orchestra (Individual); second positions in Mime, Giddha, Luddi, Phulkari Embroidery, Elocution, Classical Vocal, Bhand (Individual), and Handwriting (English); and third positions in Play, Histrionics, Clay Modelling, Mitti de Khidone, Peerhi Making, Skit, Bhand, Crochet, Indian Orchestra, Story Writing, and Non-Percussion Instrument.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma congratulated the students and faculty for their stellar achievements, lauding their commitment to excellence in academics, art, and culture. She also motivated the students to cherish our national symbols and heritage, emphasising that such celebrations and accomplishments strengthen the spirit of unity, creativity, and pride in the nation’s rich cultural legacy.
