CHANDIGARH. 18.09.25- The Department of Hematology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, successfully organized a Training Workshop on Sanger Sequencing (an advanced genetic diagnostic test) along with the Zonal Round of the Indian Society of Hematology’sNational Quiz on 17th September 2025. The academic event was supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India under its Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative.

Over80 participants including medical doctors, postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members were trained by experts from PGI in DNA sequencing.Faculty members from AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Bathinda, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital (Mullanpur) and the Ambala Civil Hospital (a designated cancer treatment centre) actively contributed to the scientific deliberations, enriching the sessions with their knowledge and experience. The interactive discussions highlighted the growing role of molecular techniques in advancing patient care and research. In the era of precision medicine, genetic diagnosis has been shown to vastly benefit patients by providing accurate diagnosis, selection of correct treatment and predicting outcome.

The Zonal Round of the ISHBT National Hematology Quiz witnessed spirited participation from leading institutes of North India, including Sher-e-Kashmir Institute, Srinagar; AIIMS, Rishikesh; PGIMER, Chandigarh; AIIMS, Bathinda; and MMIMSR, Solan. After several competitive rounds, AIIMS Rishikesh emerged as the winner, while PGIMER Chandigarh finished as the runners-up.

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers highlighted that such initiatives not only strengthen academic collaboration but also nurture the next generation of hematologistsand pathologists by promoting critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation
