As part of this initiative, a Road Safety Awareness Session was organized for the employees of JSW Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd., Plot No. 3, Industrial Area, Phase-1, Chandigarh. The session was attended by over 65 employees and aimed at sensitizing them about responsible road behavior and essential traffic regulations. Key provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (including amendments effective from 1st September 2019), the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations, 2017 were explained. A Road Safety Pledge was also administered to participants to encourage adherence to traffic rules.

In addition, Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a special awareness drive at Sector 30/32 Chowk, Chandigarh, educating the general public on the importance of wearing ISI-marked helmets, following lane discipline, stopping at red-light stop lines, and practicing “No Honking.” No Honking stickers were also distributed and pasted on vehicles.

Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, In-charge of the Children Traffic Park, along with her dedicated team educated all the participants on essential traffic rules and regulations, with a focus on wearing proper safety head gear (helmet) of BIS standards I.S.I Mark, use of indicators, maintaining lane discipline, engine switch-off at red lights to reduce the pollution, specification for inbuilt tint glass & sunshades in the vehicles, reduce air pollution, over speed and following road signage and traffic signals.

Emphasis was also placed on the significance of giving way to Emergency Vehicles i.e. Ambulance, Fire-Brigade & Police Vehicles and also to assist injured persons in reaching hospitals. They were educated on importance of designated parking spaces for persons with disabilities. They were also sensitized to park their motor vehicle at proper parking places instead of parking on roads, footpaths, Cycle tracks & turns. They were also sensitized to the dangers of mobile phone use, unnecessary honking, and driving under the influence of alcohol while driving. They were sensitized about rise of noise pollution due to modified silencers, worn-out engines & unnecessary honking etc. They have also been informed about the heavy penalties prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for tampering or erasing vehicle number plates, which may lead to imposition of heavy fines as well as suspension of vehicle registration.

These interactive learning initiatives reflects the Chandigarh Traffic Police’s commitment to fostering community awareness, promoting sustainable and safe road practices, and encouraging responsible behavior from an early age.
