Chandigarh, August 30, 2025 — In observance of the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) Eye Bank organized an Eye Donation Awareness Counter at Sector 17 Plaza, Chandigarh, today from 5:15 PM to 7:15 PM. This initiative aimed to educate the public about the critical importance of eye donation and to motivate voluntary pledges for eye donation, contributing to the noble cause of restoring sight.

Highlighting the significance of eye donation, Dr. S S Pandav, Professor & Head of the Advanced Eye Centre at PGI, stated, "Eye donation is a precious gift that transforms lives. Every pledge made brings hope to many who are waiting for a chance to regain their vision. Let us all pledge to donate eyes and help restore the gift of sight to those in need."

During the event, informational pamphlets were distributed to visitors, and trained counselors engaged with the public to explain the process and benefits of eye donation. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation, with approximately 30–40 individuals collecting informational material and several visitors pledging their commitment online to donate their eyes. The event also promoted the 24x7 Eye Bank Helpline Number – 7087008200, providing a direct channel for queries and future pledges.

Through this outreach, PGI Eye Bank reaffirmed its dedication to raising awareness about eye donation, fostering community involvement, and encouraging citizens to become active contributors to this life-changing cause.

The PGI Eye Bank’s ongoing efforts aim to create a society where voluntary eye donation is widely recognized and embraced, ensuring that no one suffers from preventable blindness due to lack of donor tissue.
