CHANDIGARH, 30.08.25-As part of the ongoing 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight, PGIMER, Chandigarh, in collaboration with partner institutions, organized a series of awareness programs to spread the message of eye donation among the youth and sensitize them towards this noble cause.

As a part of the awareness drive during the fortnight, an awareness lecture was held at Ambedkar College of Hotel Management, Sector 42, Chandigarh , where Dr. Shivam addressed the gathering, underlining the importance of eye donation in restoring vision and giving the gift of sight. Mr. Mukesh, a committed social worker, also engaged with the participants, motivating them to actively support this humanitarian cause. The program was attended by around 150 students and faculty members, who enthusiastically interacted with the speakers. Informative pamphlets on eye donation were circulated, and several students pledged their support, making the session both inspiring and memorable.

Continuing the fortnight activities, another awareness program was organized on 27th August at Khalsa College of Pharmacy, Sector 26, Chandigarh . The session featured Dr. Abhilasha as the keynote speaker along with Mr. Mukesh, who once again played a pivotal role in guiding the discussion. The lecture drew a participation of nearly 200 students and faculty members. Pledge forms and informative literature were distributed, and many students came forward to commit themselves to the noble cause of eye donation.

Speaking about these initiatives, Prof. S.S. Pandav, Head, Department of Ophthalmology, PGIMER , said, “The gift of sight is one of the most profound acts of humanity. Eye donation not only restores vision but also restores hope and dignity to those living in darkness. It is heartening to see our youth engaging in these awareness programs with such enthusiasm. By taking the pledge, they are not just committing to eye donation but also becoming ambassadors of this noble cause in society.”

The Department of Ophthalmology, PGIMER, continues to emphasize community engagement as a key pillar in promoting eye donation. These programs during the National Eye Donation Fortnight reaffirm PGIMER’s commitment to spreading awareness and encouraging citizens to come forward for this life-changing act.
