Chandigarh, 26 September: The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in association with the Microbiologists Society of India, celebrated International Microorganisms Day under a self-driven initiative by organising an educational field visit to Microwin Pvt. Ltd.
The visit provided students with valuable first-hand exposure to the functioning of the pharmaceutical industry and enabled them to understand various industrial processes and practices, including sampling procedures, raw material storage and documentation, Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA), pharmaceutical laboratory testing methods, APIs and bulk drug manufacturing, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The interaction with industry professionals helped students gain a practical understanding of how microbiological knowledge and laboratory skills are translated into real-world pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
The visit also strengthened their awareness of quality standards, documentation practices and industry-oriented laboratory procedures. Mr. Rakesh Vig, Managing Director, Microwin Pvt. Ltd., shared his entrepreneurial journey with the students, highlighting the challenges he encountered and his experiences in establishing and developing his pharmaceutical venture. His interaction proved highly motivating for the students of Microbiology and Biotechnology, offering them insights into entrepreneurship opportunities in the pharmaceutical and laboratory-testing sectors. He also emphasised the importance of developing technical expertise, managerial capabilities and industry-readiness skills for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative and said that such industry-academia interactions provide students with meaningful opportunities to connect classroom learning with professional practices. She emphasised that exposure to the pharmaceutical industry not only enhances students’ practical understanding but also encourages them to explore emerging career and entrepreneurship opportunities in the life sciences sector.
