Chandigarh, 24 September: The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry and the Research and Development Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, organised a two-day academic outreach programme titled ‘Developing Research Aptitude in Chemistry among Undergraduate Students under the NEP Framework’. Held under the aegis of RUSA 2.0 programme, the endeavour aimed at familiarising undergraduate students with contemporary research practices, advanced instrumentation, emerging technologies and career opportunities in the field of Chemistry.
As part of the programme, the students visited the Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL), Panjab University, where they gained first-hand exposure to sophisticated analytical instruments, modern research techniques and their applications. The programme featured a series of expert sessions by distinguished faculty members from Panjab University, including Dr. Aman Bhalla, Dr. Shweta Sharma, Dr. Savita Chaudhary, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur and Dr. Rajeev Kumar.
An insightful session was also conducted by Dr. Jaspreet Singh, Visiting Faculty from the USA. The sessions covered a wide range of contemporary and relevant themes, including career opportunities in Chemistry, applications of Artificial Intelligence in scientific research, laboratory safety, safe handling of chemicals and emerging areas of research. The interactive sessions provided students with valuable academic, practical and career-oriented insights, while encouraging them to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of chemical sciences and research.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma emphasised the importance of nurturing scientific curiosity and research aptitude among undergraduate students. She encouraged the students to remain abreast of emerging developments and opportunities in Chemistry and to cultivate a spirit of inquiry and innovation, in keeping with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP).
