Chandigarh, 29.08.26-GGDSD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, organised a solemn Prarthana Sabha on August 29, 2026, to commemorate the 27th death anniversary of Revered Late (Dr) Pandit Mohan Lal Ji, former Home, Finance, Industry and Education Minister of Punjab and Founder President of the GGDSD College Society, Chandigarh. The occasion was attended by Ms. Vaishali Sharma, President, GGDSD College Society, Dr Siddharth Sharma, Vice President, and other distinguished members of the GGDSD College Society. Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal of the College, delivered the welcome address, while students, retired members of the staff and alumni also gathered to pay homage to the visionary statesman and institution builder whose contribution to education and public life continues to inspire generations.
The Pandit Mohan Lal Memorial Lecture was delivered by Mr. Ramesh Vinayak, Executive Editor, Hindustan Times, who described Dr Pandit Mohan Lal Ji as “an illustrious son of Punjab, who was a great institution builder.” Reflecting upon the transformative role of institutions, education and technology, Mr. Vinayak spoke about the immense changes that these forces have catalysed in society and in the lives of successive generations. Addressing the younger generation, particularly Gen Z, he observed that the vision and efforts of people like Dr Pandit Mohan Lal Ji had created opportunities for the youth of contemporary India and emphasised that “it is the best time in the history of India to be young today.” His lecture highlighted the enduring relevance of visionary leadership, institution building and quality education in shaping the future of the nation.
The memorial programme was followed by a soulful devotional presentation by Smt. Aastha Goswami, an acclaimed bhajan singer from Vrindavan, whose rendition of bhajans created an atmosphere of devotion, reflection and remembrance. The programme concluded with Langar for all attendees. The Prarthana Sabha served as a fitting tribute to the life and legacy of Dr Pandit Mohan Lal Ji and reaffirmed the continued commitment of the GGDSD College Society and its institutions to uphold his vision of education, service and social progress.
