Chandigarh, 29 August: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised an Inter-Institutional Start-up Competition to provide aspiring young entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase innovative ideas and explore their potential as viable start-up ventures.
The competition witnessed an enthusiastic response, with 35 teams pitching ideas addressing a wide range of real-world challenges in areas such as sustainability and waste management, education and skill development, healthcare and wellness, workplace solutions, smart water management, urban infrastructure, safety, agriculture and digital technology. Several teams leveraged emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and blockchain, to develop practical and scalable solutions to contemporary problems. The start-up pitches were evaluated by an expert panel comprising alumna Ms Kajal Dubey, Founder, Cualidad, and Co-founder, The Podcast Production; Dr Arshdeep, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate Department of Commerce; and Ms Punam Dawgotra, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Applications. The teams were assessed on parameters including originality, feasibility, scalability and societal impact. The experts also offered constructive feedback and valuable insights to help participants further refine their ideas and strengthen their entrepreneurial pitches. The competition culminated in the recognition of the top-performing teams, with the position holders being awarded cash prizes.
Officiating Principal Ms Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative, stating that the competition provided students with valuable exposure to expert evaluation while strengthening their pitching, communication and problem-solving skills. She added that such platforms encourage young minds to approach real-world challenges with creativity, innovation and an entrepreneurial perspective.
