VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS PATWARI FOR TAKING RS 500 BRIBE FOR CORRECTION IN REVENUE RECORD

Accused previously received Rs 1,000 out of deal

Chandigarh, March 28 2024 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday has apprehended a revenue Patwari, Dhani Chand, posted at revenue halqua village Burj Rathi, Mansa district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 500.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this revenue official has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Nishan Singh, a resident of village Bhai Desa in Mansa district. The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has demanded Rs 1,500 for making correction in the revenue record pertaining to his land. He alleged that the Patwari has already taken Rs 1,000 on the spot and demanding the remaining balance of bribe.

He further informed that after a preliminary inquiry about this complaint a VB team has laid a trap in which the accused Patwari has been arrested while he was accepting Rs 500 as second instalment of bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the said accused at VB police station Bathinda range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.

VB NABS PSPCL ASSISTANT LINE MAN FOR TAKING RS. 15,000 BRIBE

Chandigarh March 28, 2024 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Thursday arrested Charanjit Singh, posted as Technical Assistant Line Man (ALM) but working as a Consumer Clerk in Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office Balbehra, in Patiala district and residing at Bilaspur dera, Bazigar Basti, Patiala red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Harinder Singh, a resident of village Dulba in Patiala district.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has demanded Rs 15,000 to transfer a tubewell power connection owned by his grandfather to his name.

The spokesperson added that after preliminary inquiry a VB team laid a trap in which the accused official has been arrested while he was taking bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has registered against the accused at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
