Mahendragarh., 27.03.24-A two-day national seminar funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) began at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh. This two-day seminar on Women's Empowerment and Sustainable Development: A Comparative Study of Meghalaya and Haryana was organized in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology (USTM), Meghalaya and Tripura Bamboo and Cane Development Centre. Former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Prof. P.C. Joshi was the chief guest, Prof. Abha Chauhan from Central University of Himachal Pradesh was the guest speaker while, Professor Rajesh Gill of Punjab University, Chandigarh and Prof. Abdul Matin of UCTM were present as the keynote speakers. On this occasion, the first lady of the University, Prof. Sunita Srivastava was also present.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar said that women empowerment is necessary for sustainable development. He said that to establish equality between men and women, it is necessary to make changes from the education front to the level of social and economic development. He said that this event will definitely prove helpful in this direction. Prof. G.D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of USTM said that there are huge differences in Meghalya and Haryana at the geographical, cultural and social level and this research work will definitely pave the way for remarkable changes.

Prof. P.C. Joshi said that from food to livelihood and cultural front, there is a huge difference between Haryana and Meghalaya. Certainly, through this research, various aspects related to this topic will come to light.
Prof. Abha Chauhan presented her views linking women empowerment with economic, social, political and legal aspects and laid emphasis on necessary changes at the level of women empowerment. Prof. Rajesh Gill, while speaking on the status of women at the level of Haryana and Meghalaya, talked about developing a similar system. She said that women are at the forefront in every aspect of management. Prof. Abdul Matin focused his lecture on women empowerment through livelihood earning and told how women in the North East are strongly active as heads of households. Dr. T. Longkoi presented the welcome address.
