Chandigarh, July 31- Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, on Thursday questioned Punjab Chief Minister, Sh. Bhagwant Singh Mann, over the implementation of the 56 promises made by his government during the last Assembly elections. He said that with only about four months left before the next Assembly elections, the people of Punjab deserve to know how many of those promises had been fulfilled. He also questioned whether the Punjab government would be able to fulfil all the remaining promises within the time left.

Saini paid rich tributes to the legendary freedom fighter and said that only a BJP government in Punjab could fulfil the dreams envisioned by Shaheed Udham Singh for the development of the youth. Taking a swipe at the AAP government, he remarked that a state's development is driven not by slogans but by intent and commitment.

The Haryana Chief Minister also targeted the Punjab Government over the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Excise Inspectors, describing it as a grave injustice to talented youth. Referring to a speaker's claim at the function that the Punjab Government had fulfilled only 30 per cent of its electoral promises, he asked Punjab Chief Minister Sh. Bhagwant Singh Mann to disclose how many of the promises made during the last Assembly elections had actually been implemented and whether the remaining commitments could be fulfilled within the next four months.

Highlighting the achievements of the Haryana Government, Sh. Nayab Singh said that under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, India is scaling new heights of development while taking pride in its rich heritage. He said the Haryana Government is working with the same vision and has undertaken several welfare initiatives for farmers, women and youth. Referring to the BJP's election manifesto in Haryana, he said the party had made 217 Sankalps, of which 70 have already been fulfilled within just one-and-a-half years, while the remaining 147 would also be implemented soon.

Calling upon the people of Punjab to follow the ideals of Shaheed Sardar Udham Singh, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said the BJP is the only political party committed to honouring great national icons while working towards building a developed and culturally rooted India.

Describing Sanaur as a sacred land of patriotism, the Chief Minister said some places merely become part of history, while others create history, and Sanaur belongs to the latter category. He said every inch of this soil reminds the nation that India's freedom was not inherited but earned through the penance of the Gurus, the valour of brave warriors and the supreme sacrifices of countless martyrs.

Recalling the life and legacy of Shaheed Sardar Udham Singh, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said the revolutionary devoted his life to the service of the nation and avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in London. He said Shaheed Udham Singh distinguished between the British people and British imperialism, and that his struggle was never against any religion, community or nation, but against injustice.

Urging the people of Punjab to draw inspiration from the great revolutionary, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that if one Udham Singh could uphold his resolve for 21 years and shake the foundations of an empire, then 3.5 crore Punjabis united by a common resolve could certainly transform the destiny of Punjab.

Book on Water Conservation *Ek Boond Sau Sawaal Launched

Chandigarh, July 31- Commissioner and Secretary, Information, Public Relations, Languages & Culture Department, Dr. Amit Agrawal, attended a programme at Haryana Niwas, Chandigarh, as the chief guest on Friday. On the occasion, he released Ek Boond Sau Sawaal, a book jointly authored by noted writer Dr. Shamim Sharma and her daughter-in-law Dr. Sarita Sharma, and congratulated both authors for their remarkable work.

Praising the book authors, Dr. Amit Agrawal said it presents the historical, literary, cultural and environmental dimensions of water in a simple yet engaging manner, making it an informative and enjoyable read for people of all age groups. He also shared that, inspired by the book, a key decision had recently been taken during a meeting of the Industries Department. Henceforth, the availability and feasibility of water resources will be assessed before granting approval to any new industrial project or industrial park in the state. He further stressed that industries must adopt water conservation measures to curb excessive extraction of groundwater.

He said Haryana is a semi-arid state where water has always held immense cultural as well as scientific significance. Traditional practices such as Kuan Pujan and several customs related to cleanliness were linked with religious beliefs to encourage people to protect water sources from pollution and safeguard public health from water-borne diseases.

Emphasising the importance of language, Dr. Amit Agrawal said today's youth are increasingly drifting away from their linguistic roots. He said it is essential to instil pride in one's mother tongue, adding that Hindi serves as a unifying language for the country. He stressed that more simple, high-quality and practical books like Ek Boond Sau Sawaal should be written to promote and preserve the language.

Addressing the gathering, The Daily Tribune Editor, Sh. Naresh Kaushal said literature is not merely a medium of expression but an instrument of social transformation. He said that through stories, poetry, satire, autobiographical writings, feminist discourse and Haryanvi humour, Dr. Shamim Sharma has carved a distinct place for herself in the literary world. Her writings, he said, have effectively highlighted women's dignity, female foeticide, social inequalities, rural life, family relationships and human values. He also lauded her significant contribution to enhancing the literary stature of the Haryanvi language.

Director of the Urdu Cell, Haryana Sahitya Evam Sanskriti Academy, Panchkula, Dr. Chander Trikha who attended the programme as the guest of honour, congratulated both authors and appreciated their initiative in writing a book on the contemporary issue of water conservation. He said conserving water is a collective responsibility and called upon everyone to make sustained efforts in this direction.

Speaking on the occasion, co-author Dr. Shamim Sharma said the book comprises 49 chapters focusing on different aspects of water conservation. She added that the growing need to conserve water inspired the creation of the book.

Chandigarh, July 31- Haryana Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Minister, Sh. Shyam Singh Rana on Friday attended the State-level Martyrdom Day programme organised by the Haryana Kamboj Sabha at Kamboj Dharamshala in Radaur to commemorate the martyrdom of legendary freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh. The Minister paid floral tributes to the iconic revolutionary and said his unparalleled sacrifice, unwavering courage and deep sense of patriotism would continue to inspire generations.

Paying homage to Shaheed Udham Singh, Sh Shyam Singh Rana described him as one of India's greatest revolutionaries whose life embodied courage, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to justice. He said that despite losing his parents at a young age, Udham Singh never succumbed to adversity, proving that difficult circumstances can shape extraordinary personalities.

Recalling the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of April 13, 1919, the Minister said the brutal killing of innocent Indians strengthened Udham Singh's resolve to avenge the atrocity. After years of determination and perseverance, he fulfilled that pledge by assassinating Michael O'Dwyer, the then Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, at Caxton Hall in London on March 13, 1940. Udham Singh was executed at Pentonville Prison on July 31, 1940, embracing martyrdom with remarkable courage.

Sh. Shyam Singh Rana said independent India stands on the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and urged citizens to fulfil their vision by building a self-reliant, prosperous, educated, scientifically progressive and socially harmonious nation. He said empowering farmers, modernising agriculture and strengthening rural development are also acts of national service, adding that the Haryana Government remains fully committed to farmers' welfare, agricultural modernisation and rural prosperity. He called upon the youth to draw inspiration from Shaheed Udham Singh's ideals and dedicate themselves to nation-building.

Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, who was also present on the occasion, paid tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh and other freedom fighters. He also announced a grant of Rs 21 lakh to the Haryana Kamboj Mahasabha for social welfare and community development activities and said a 108-foot National Flag would be installed at the birthplace of Shaheed Udham Singh as a tribute to the legendary revolutionary.

Yamunanagar MLA, Sh. Ghanshyam Dasd Arora, BJP, Haryana Kamboj Mahasabha President Sumer Chand Kamboj and other distinguished dignitaries also remained present on the occasion.

Competitions to Be Organised Under ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ Campaign

Chandigarh, July 31: Various competitions will be organised under the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat campaign being implemented by MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse, inspire them to contribute to nation-building, and provide a platform to showcase their creative and cultural talents.

Sharing more details in this regard, an official spokesperson said that youth interested in participating in the competitions can register through the MY Bharat portal. The competitions will be based on themes centred around a drug-free society and the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The spokesperson said the competitive events will include folk song performances, acts and mime acts, short film and reel-making competitions, painting, debates and slogan-writing contests. Winners at the district level will qualify for the state-level competitions. State-level winners will get the opportunity to participate in the national-level programme to be held on August 14-15, 2026.
