CHANDIGARH, February 20, 2026: The Postgraduate Department of Sociology, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32-C, Chandigarh, under the PM-USHA (RUSA) scheme, organized an expert talk on the occasion of World Day of Social Justice on the theme “Social Justice and the Indian Constitution.”
The session was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Emanual Nahar, Professor of Political Science and Dean of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and nearly 200 students. The session commenced with a green welcome by Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal, and Dr. Mona Arora, Head of the PG Department of Sociology.
Prof. Nahar, in his address, highlighted the constitutional vision of social justice as enshrined in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. He elaborated on key constitutional provisions such as Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy, and affirmative action policies aimed at reducing social and economic inequalities. He emphasized that the Indian Constitution is not merely a legal document but a powerful instrument for promoting equality, dignity, and justice for all citizens, especially marginalized and disadvantaged sections of society.
The lecture also focused on contemporary challenges in achieving social justice, including caste discrimination, gender inequality, and economic disparity. Prof. Nahar urged students to understand their constitutional rights and duties and actively contribute towards building a more just and inclusive society.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Mona Arora, Head, Department of Sociology. The event successfully created awareness about the relevance of the Indian Constitution in ensuring social justice in contemporary society.
