Chandigarh, December 13:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive at prominent locations including Sector 22 near Kiran Cinema and Shastri Market, Sector 15, Rock Garden, and Sukhna Lake area. The drive was aimed at removing unauthorized encroachments from public spaces to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and maintain the city’s aesthetic appeal.
During the drive, enforcement teams issued a total of 47 challans to violators found occupying public land illegally. The action was taken in the presence of MC officials and police personnel to ensure orderly conduct of the drive.
In Sector 22, an unfortunate incident occurred when a group of women allegedly attacked municipal labour engaged in the drive. Taking cognizance of the matter, the Municipal Corporation immediately sought police intervention, and a formal complaint was lodged with the Sector 22 Police Chowki In-charge.
The Municipal Corporation reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards encroachments and obstruction of official duties, and appealed to the public to cooperate in keeping Chandigarh clean, safe, and encroachment-free.
