AAP government must stop protecting drug traffickers and take firm action against them: Sunil Jakhar
Jakhar criticises Chief Minister for travelling to France to celebrate his birthday while leaving Punjab burning
Jakhar meets Punjab DGP to seek justice in Lovepreet Singh’s death case
Warns of moving court if action is not taken within 5–7 days
— Those raising their voices against drugs must get justice
Chandigarh, October 19: Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has urged the AAP government to stop protecting drug traffickers and take firm action to curb the drug menace. Expressing anguish over the Chief Minister’s visit to France to celebrate his birthday while Punjab burns in the furnace of drugs, he said the people of Punjab were keeping account of every moment.
Jakhar was speaking to journalists after meeting the Punjab DGP, accompanied by Amandeep Kaur, the sister of Lovepreet Singh, and other family members, to seek justice for Lovepreet, who was found dead in Abohar on September 14.
During the press conference, the family alleged that despite submitting complaints, they had received no justice in Lovepreet’s death case. Questioning the Punjab government’s anti-drug policy and the accountability of the police administration, Jakhar warned that the matter would be taken to court if appropriate action was not taken within the next five to seven days.
Lovepreet Singh’s sister, Amandeep Kaur, alleged during the press conference that drug traffickers had murdered her brother on September 14 and dumped his body in the bushes. She said the family had sent complaints to the SSP and the Punjab DGP through email and Speed Post on September 19, but no action had followed. The family alleged that drugs were being sold openly in the area and that those selling them were also issuing threats. They further claimed that reports had emerged of even minors being involved in selling drugs in the locality.
Jakhar said Amandeep Kaur had gathered CCTV footage related to the case through her own efforts, and that it had been handed over to the Punjab DGP on a pen drive. He alleged that reports had also emerged of the police intimidating those from whom the footage had been collected and having it deleted, instead of taking action.
He demanded that all available digital evidence in the case be preserved and that the investigation, including forensic examination of the evidence, be conducted in accordance with due legal process, so that no crucial evidence was damaged and the truth behind the death could emerge.
Referring to the Punjab DGP’s announcement on April 28, 2025, about holding the SHO of the police station concerned accountable in cases involving drug recoveries, Jakhar asked: “If accountability had been fixed to prevent drug trafficking, where are the results?”
Jakhar said that after district magistrates issued orders banning pregabalin, no official had bothered to visit pharmacies to check whether those orders were being followed. He alleged that the government had confined itself to issuing official orders and completing paperwork. He said Parwinder Singh Jhona would still be alive today had the government acted in time to curb the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.
Jakhar also questioned the measures being taken to prevent cross-border drug trafficking. Questioning the effectiveness of the anti-drone system called “Baaz Akh,” reportedly installed at a cost of approximately ₹52 crore, he said 25 kilograms of heroin had been seized from a constable deployed with the system. He asked whether the constable was operating on his own or whether senior officers or a political leader were also involved.
He said the system had been installed for ₹52 crore, while heroin worth ₹125 crore had been seized from an employee deployed with it. He alleged that these figures exposed the government’s intentions and the network behind it. Questioning the demolition of drug traffickers’ houses, Jakhar described the exercise as a bizarre spectacle. He asked why the government had not dared to demolish the houses of former police officer Rajjit or the constable from whom 25 kilograms of heroin had recently been seized.

FIR Should Be Registered Against MLA Dev Mann in Nabha Assault Case: Ashwani Sharma
Pathankot: October 19, 2026-The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack following the emergence of a video allegedly showing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from the Nabha Assembly constituency, Dev Mann, losing his temper and getting a young man beaten up by his security personnel.
BJP MLA and former Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma has demanded that an FIR be registered against MLA Dev Mann in connection with the Nabha assault case. He said that AAP legislators were intoxicated by the power of authority and that arrogance had gone to their heads. He alleged that following a minor motorcycle-related collision in Nabha, MLA Dev Mann first chased the young man and then got him beaten up by his security personnel.
Sharma questioned the state government, asking whether this was the kind of change the Aam Aadmi Party had promised the people. Leaders who claim to be servants of the public are now beating people over trivial matters, he said. “Is this why the people of Punjab elected them?” he asked.
He said that VIP culture had become deeply ingrained in every aspect of AAP leaders’ conduct. What happened in Nabha was extremely shameful, he added. Sharma said the video clearly showed the young man being kicked. Such behaviour, he asserted, was unacceptable for any elected public representative.
The BJP leader said that these people had begun to see themselves as heroes and the public as insignificant creatures. Sharma demanded that the administration conduct an impartial investigation into the entire incident and register an FIR in accordance with the law. He said that no one was above the law, not even an MLA.

Home Minister Amit Shah’s Punjab Visit a New Hope for Families Affected by Drugs: Kewal Singh Dhillon
BJP Stands with Families Affected by Drugs in Punjab: Dhillon
Chandigarh, October 19-Highlighting the Central Government’s seriousness regarding the drug problem and the prevailing situation in Punjab, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will meet families affected by drugs during his visit to the state. Sharing this information, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon said that the Home Minister would meet the family of Parminder Singh Jhotta in Mansa, the family of Gulzar Singh in Toor Banjara village of Sangrur district, and the family of Bikramjit Singh in Mari Panwan village of Gurdaspur district.
Kewal Singh Dhillon said that, given the drug problem in Punjab and the growing concern among the people, Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state is extremely significant. He said the visit has sparked a new hope for families affected by drugs, as their concerns will be heard seriously and efforts will be made to ensure justice for them. He thanked Amit Shah for this initiative.
Dhillon also thanked Sardar Bhim Singh Fauji, father of Parminder Singh Jhotta, for expressing his faith in Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. He said that the people of Punjab and the affected families want concrete action against drugs and justice for the victims. He expressed hope that the Home Minister’s intervention would ensure that these cases are pursued seriously.
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, Dhillon said that at a time when the state is struggling with the serious problem of drugs and people are waiting for justice, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s foreign visits raise several questions. He said Punjab currently needs a government that delivers results on the ground rather than merely issuing statements. According to him, while families across Punjab continue to suffer from the devastating impact of drugs, the performance of the state government is facing persistent scrutiny.
State BJP President Dhillon said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah are committed to making Punjab drug-free. With this objective, a commitment has been made to eliminate drugs from Punjab by December 31, 2029. He said the fight against drugs is a fight to safeguard the future of Punjab’s younger generation, its families and generations to come.
He said that freeing Punjab from the menace of drugs requires strict action, dismantling drug trafficking networks and taking concrete steps to rehabilitate people affected by substance abuse. Dhillon expressed confidence that the Central Government would remain committed to making Punjab drug-free and ensuring justice for affected families

Law and Order Is the State Government’s Responsibility; AAP Must Answer for Its Four-and-a-Half Years in Power: Vijay Sampla
Jalandhar, October 19:Maintaining law and order in Punjab is the responsibility of the state government. However, instead of presenting an account of its four-and-a-half years in office, ministers of the Punjab government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are busy targeting the Central Government. This was stated by Vijay Sampla, former state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to a statement, Vijay Sampla hit back at Aman Arora’s repeated statements that allegedly malign Punjab and raised several questions. Who forced Gulzar in Sangrur to die by suicide? Who subjected Mohanjeet Shore to brutal third-degree torture for showing a black flag? Whom are the family members accusing of conspiring in the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota? Who is responsible for Bikramjit Singh’s death in Gurdaspur, and how did those who carried out a murderous attack on Lakhwinder Singh in Fatehgarh Sahib manage to escape accountability?
Vijay Sampla said that Aman Arora, Punjab president of the Aam Aadmi Party and a Cabinet Minister, should gather the courage to step out of his air-conditioned residence, face the people of Punjab, and answer these questions.
Vijay Sampla said, “Mr. Aman Arora, if you still have not understood that law and order is a state subject after serving as a minister for four-and-a-half years, then instead of reading scripted statements written by leaders in Delhi, you should consult someone knowledgeable before making public statements.”
Sampla said Aman Arora must not forget that maintaining law and order in Punjab is a primary responsibility of the state government. The state government cannot evade accountability for its failures by citing the responsibilities of the Central Government. The people of Punjab gave AAP the mandate to govern, not a licence to blame the Centre for every problem.
He further asked where the AAP supremo was—the same leader who used to say in Delhi that if he were given charge of the Delhi Police, he would set everything right. Now, the Punjab Police falls under the state government’s authority, so why have drugs, gangsterism, and corruption not been brought under control?

Amit Shah to Attend Dussehra Celebrations at Daresi Ground in Ludhiana
Ludhiana, October 19, 2026-Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Punjab on October 20 for a one-day tour. During the visit, he will meet the family members of people who were killed after raising their voices against drugs and express his condolences. In the evening, he will also attend the Ravana Dahan ceremony at Daresi Ground in Ludhiana. Punjab BJP General Secretary Anil Sareen shared this information in Ludhiana on Monday.
Anil Sareen said that the three families Amit Shah is scheduled to meet have become symbols of the fight against drugs in Punjab. He said that just as Lord Shri Ram defeated Ravana on the battlefield, Punjab must now be freed from the Ravana of drugs. The BJP has pledged that Punjab will be completely drug-free by December 31, 2029, after the party forms the government in the state.
He said Amit Shah’s visit comes at a time when Punjab is struggling with the devastating impact of drugs, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is enjoying himself on a foreign tour. The BJP alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government had left Punjab to fend for itself, whereas the BJP stands firmly with the affected families. He stated that Amit Shah will first meet the family members of Bikramjit Singh at Sri Hargobindpur Sahib in Batala. He will then visit Mansa to meet the family of Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was killed, and express his condolences. Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, had also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and ensure justice.
Finally, Amit Shah will meet the family members of Gulzar Singh in Toor Banjara village of Sangrur district. Gulzar Singh was reportedly forced to die by suicide after raising his voice against drugs.
Anil Sareen further stated that Amit Shah will attend the Dussehra celebrations at Daresi Ground in Ludhiana in the evening as the chief guest.
