Chandigarh, August 28, 2026:With the objective of accelerating Chandigarh’s transition towards clean and sustainable energy, the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), Chandigarh Administration, will organise a mega “Solar Weekend” on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The two-day special door-to-door and outreach campaign aims to encourage the large-scale adoption of rooftop solar systems under the Government of India’s flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The campaign will primarily cover freehold independent dwelling units of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) having roof rights, enabling residents to adopt clean energy and substantially reduce their electricity bills.
Joint teams comprising officials and representatives of CREST, CPDL, CHB, banks and empanelled solar vendors will be available from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days across Sectors 41-A, 46, 38 (West), 40, 42 and 44.
Residents visiting the camps will be provided single-window assistance, including technical guidance, assessment of site feasibility, rooftop solar registration and facilitation of low-interest loans at rates starting from 6 per cent, subject to the applicable terms and conditions of the concerned banks.
CREST has appealed to residents of the identified sectors to visit their nearest camp with a copy of their latest electricity bill. On-the-spot assistance will be provided for technical consultation, loan facilitation, registration and availing subsidy benefits under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Residents may also apply through the official portal, www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in, or visit the CREST camp locations for complete assistance.
