Chandigarh, August 24:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh held a meeting under the chairmanship of Joint Commissioner Sh. Balbir Raj to review and strengthen compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The meeting was attended by Ms. Mohinderjeet Kaur, Councillors, concerned officials and other stakeholders.

The meeting focused on ensuring effective implementation of the prescribed solid waste management provisions, particularly with regard to proper segregation, processing and scientific management of waste by Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs).

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the measures required to improve compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. Emphasis was laid on proper segregation of waste at source, appropriate processing of different categories of waste and ensuring its scientific management in accordance with the prescribed norms.

Joint Commissioner Sh. Balbir Raj stressed upon the need for Bulk Waste Generators and other concerned stakeholders to strictly follow the provisions of the Rules and adopt effective waste management practices. He also emphasised the importance of regular monitoring and coordinated efforts to ensure compliance on the ground.

The participants were requested to take necessary measures to ensure effective and timely compliance with the prescribed solid waste management provisions and to strengthen waste segregation, processing and scientific waste management practices.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reiterated its commitment to strengthening the city’s solid waste management system and ensuring a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Chandigarh.
