Chandigarh, 24 August: On the occasion of Akshay Urja Diwas, the Eco Club ‘Parivesh’ and the Renewable Energy Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised an educational visit to the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Sector 33-D, Chandigarh.
The visit aimed to sensitise students to the significance of renewable and sustainable energy resources while providing them with first-hand exposure to initiatives undertaken to promote clean energy. During their interaction with PEDA officials, the students gained valuable insights into the agency’s functioning and its efforts towards the development and promotion of renewable energy in Punjab. The students were introduced to various forms of renewable energy, their practical applications, and their environmental and societal benefits. The interaction also highlighted the importance of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and the adoption of sustainable technologies in everyday life. The visit enabled the students to develop a deeper understanding of the role of renewable energy in addressing environmental concerns and reducing dependence on conventional sources of energy. The educational visit proved to be an enriching experiential learning opportunity, strengthening the students’ understanding of responsible energy use and sustainable development. It also reinforced the spirit of Akshay Urja Diwas, which seeks to create awareness about renewable energy and encourage its adoption for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma emphasised that such educational visits broaden students’ understanding of contemporary environmental challenges and inspire them to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. She encouraged the students to become responsible ambassadors of renewable energy and energy conservation and to contribute meaningfully towards building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable society. She further reaffirmed the college’s commitment to fostering environmental consciousness among students through meaningful academic and co-curricular initiatives.
