Chandigarh, 24 August 2026: A delegation of Laghu Udyog Bharati, Chandigarh Unit, led by its President Avi Bhasin, met Deputy Commissioner Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav to discuss important and long-pending issues concerning Chandigarh’s industrial sector.

The meeting was held as a follow-up to earlier meetings and the issues recently raised before the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria. The delegation submitted a memorandum containing a four-point agenda and requested that these matters be taken up on priority at the local administrative level.

The key demands included:

1. Permission for Industry-Supporting Services
Permission for mill stores, steel/stainless-steel/aluminium sheet suppliers, pipe suppliers, hardware, industrial tools and other essential industry-supporting services in the Industrial Area.

2. Factory Outlets for Local Manufacturers
Permission for local manufacturers to display and directly sell their own manufactured products through Factory Outlets. This would strengthen local manufacturing and promote the vision of “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

3. Complete Services for the Automobile Sector
Permission for automobile units in the Industrial Area to undertake vehicle repair, servicing, spare parts, particularly accessories fitting, wheel alignment, denting, painting and other allied activities. The delegation highlighted that these activities require adequate space, which is generally not available in sector markets.

4. Rationalisation of Unearned Charges
The delegation requested that unearned charges be reduced and rationalised, considering that most Industrial Area plots were allotted in 1972 on a 99-year lease basis and approximately 50% of the lease period has already elapsed. This would help resolve a major title-related issue faced by industrial plot holders.

Avi Bhasin said that these issues are directly connected with the genuine requirements of existing industries. Such activities require adequate space for storage, machinery, vehicles and loading/unloading, which is not available in sector markets. Therefore, the Industrial Area is the most suitable and planned location for these activities.

The delegation requested the Deputy Commissioner to take up these matters with the concerned departments and facilitate their consideration on priority at the local administrative level.

The delegation comprised Avi Bhasin, President, Laghu Udyog Bharati, Chandigarh; Akshay Chugh; Sunil Khetarpal; and Ram Kumar Garg.

Laghu Udyog Bharati expressed confidence that, with the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav and the support of the Chandigarh Administration, these important issues would receive due consideration and a practical and industry-friendly solution would be evolved.
