Chandigarh, 11 August: Reinforcing the message of a healthy, responsible and drug-free youth, the Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised an awareness session against drug abuse under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
The awareness programme was conducted through the NMBA Mobile Van and used the allegory of ‘Kumbhkaran’ to sensitise students to the harmful consequences of addiction and other detrimental habits, while encouraging them to adopt positive and constructive ways of addressing challenges in life. Brahma Kumari Neha from Brahma Kumaris Centre, Rajyoga Bhawan, began the session with a meditation exercise and engaged the students in an insightful interaction on the importance of positive thinking, self-discipline and a healthy lifestyle. She urged the students to set clear and determined goals, develop the confidence to say “No” when necessary, make thoughtful and responsible choices, and use technology mindfully. Emphasising the role of meditation in maintaining mental well-being and self-control, she encouraged the students to practise meditation twice a day. She also highlighted the importance of developing inner strength and cultivating healthy habits as effective ways of staying away from substance abuse and other harmful influences. The session concluded with the administration of the pledge against drug abuse, reaffirming the students’ commitment to contributing towards a healthier and drug-free society. More than 80 students participated actively in the awareness programme.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the VADA Club for organising the initiative and encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their commitment to a healthy, responsible and drug-free lifestyle. She emphasised that awareness, self-discipline and informed choices among young people are crucial to building a healthier society.
