Leading with Transparency: Under Mayor Saurabh Joshi's Leadership, MC Chandigarh Makes Body-Worn Cameras Mandatory for Enforcement Staff

Chandigarh, July 16:- Reinforcing its commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, under the leadership of city Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi, has made the use of Body-Worn Cameras mandatory for all Enforcement Branch personnel during field operations—marking a significant step towards technology-driven and citizen-centric governance.

Sharing the decision, Mayor Saurabh Joshi said the initiative has been introduced to ensure transparent enforcement practices, strengthen public confidence and establish a fair, accountable and professional system of civic administration. He said every enforcement action will now be backed by digital evidence, ensuring greater transparency and responsibility during field operations.

The Body-Worn Cameras have already been provided to Sub Inspectors, drivers, labourers and other enforcement field staff. They will now be worn during every enforcement drive to record official interactions and maintain complete transparency in the discharge of official duties.

The Mayor said the decision has been taken to safeguard the interests of both citizens and enforcement personnel, eliminate unnecessary disputes, prevent untoward incidents and ensure that enforcement actions remain fair, impartial and transparent.
He further stated that the recordings will serve as an authentic and reliable record of enforcement activities, facilitate objective review whenever required, enhance institutional accountability and further strengthen public trust in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

Mayor Saurabh Joshi added that the mandatory use of Body-Worn Cameras reflects the Municipal Corporation's resolve to embrace modern technology for better governance. He said the initiative will promote professionalism, integrity, responsibility and transparency in enforcement operations while ensuring that civic duties are performed with the highest standards of fairness and accountability.

"Transparent governance is the foundation of public trust. This initiative is another decisive step towards making Chandigarh's civic administration more accountable, technology-driven and citizen-centric," the Mayor Joshi said.

From Waste to Green: Mayor Saurabh Joshi launches 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' plantation drive at reclaimed Kajheri site under 'Swachhata Se Swagat' campaign

Chandigarh, July 16: Taking the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' campaign beyond cleanliness and towards environmental conservation, Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today launched a tree plantation drive under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative at a recently reclaimed site in Village Kajheri, transforming the once garbage-laden area into a green space.

The plantation drive was carried out at the very location where the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh had removed and lifted tonnes of mixed garbage and construction & demolition (C&D) waste from open and reserved land during the intensive cleanliness campaign launched on July 14.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the objective of the campaign is not merely to remove accumulated waste but to permanently reclaim public spaces by converting them into green zones. He said that under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, ornamental and shade-giving trees will be planted at every reclaimed site, promoting environmental sustainability while paying tribute to mothers.

The Mayor directed the engineers and officials of the Horticulture Wing of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to immediately undertake plantation of ornamental and shade-giving trees at all locations where waste has been removed over the past three days under the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' campaign. He emphasized that every cleaned site should be protected from fresh dumping and developed into a clean, green and aesthetically appealing public space.

Area Councillor Sh. Lakhbir Singh Billu, who also participated in the plantation drive, appreciated the Mayor's vision of linking cleanliness with environmental conservation. He thanked Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi for initiating the transformation of reclaimed sites into green spaces under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and said that such initiatives will not only beautify Chandigarh but also inspire citizens to actively participate in protecting the environment.

Reiterating the Municipal Corporation's commitment to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Chandigarh, the Mayor said that sanitation drives, scientific waste management and large-scale plantation will continue across the city to improve the urban environment and enhance public spaces.

The Mayor also appealed to citizens to actively support both the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' and 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaigns by planting trees, maintaining cleanliness and preventing illegal dumping of waste, thereby contributing towards making Chandigarh a model city of cleanliness, greenery and environmental responsibility.
